Relocating to Fort Meade (Columbia, Severn: apartments, townhomes, safe area)

Our family is being restationed to Fort Meade, MD. We were looking at the Severn area and didn't know if this was a safe area for military families? Can anyone help us with this because we have 2 small children and don't want to be harrassed everyday because we are military.

I really can't speak for Severn directly but I would not think your children would be harassed for being in a military family. Sorry for being naive but for the life of me I can't see why that would occur anywhere.

For personal safety reasons I would not venture into PG county (East side of Fort Meade). Odenton also has its bad areas but I have not heard a lot of bad things about Severn or its southern neighbor Gambrills.

Thank you for your help would you or anyone else have any information about the Somerset Wood Apartments and that particular area? Are they decent townhomes and is that part of Severn safe for a family and also parking?

My husband is stationed at Ft. Meade, and we currently live in Odenton. I cannot comment on the particular area you are looking in. However, I can tell you to consider Piney Orchard in Odenton and also the Columbia area. I currently live in Seven Oaks and would not recommend it as being particularly safe. Hope this helps.
