Furniture Store Recommendations
We are moving soon and will need some new furniture. Does anyone have any recommendations, or warnings, for furniture stores in and around annapolis?

Avoid Marlo Furniture - check the website, The Ripoff Report, and it seems like every second post is about someone who had a really bad experience with them.

Thanks. What about Gardiners, The Room Store, or Ikea? Anyone have any experience with either of those?

I don't care for Marlo Furniture, but I do like Regency Furniture and also there's a furniture store in Bowie, MD called Haverty's which is nice, but a bit on the pricey side. If you're looking for something reasonably price and has good quality, I'd try Jennifer's. I got a sectional from them 3 years ago and I love it. Good quality. Also, I'd stay away from the Room Store. Just my own personal experience with the furniture. Customer Service is great, but I had to have a sofa repaired twice within the first 30 days. It started coming apart within 2 days of my having purchased it. Woudln't be so bad, but it's just me and my 16 year old daughter. And we are not rough on furniture. This has been delegated to the basement, but it seems to be coming apart at the seems even with no one sitting on it.
Just my opinion...
Good luck.

Marlo= very expensive, cheaply made furniture
Ikea= reasonibly priced, cheaply made furniture
My advice, look for an ad on craigslist, the pennysaver, or hit up a church or rec center flea market, thrift store, or yard sale and get something used and nice. Unless you just want to have something new, then I would do Regency or Value City. I think it is all the same junk from the same factories, so you will get what you pay for.
If you have the time or oppurtunity take a drive into Delaware to Johnny Janosiks furniture, good quality stuff and not too expensive. The catch is you have to pick up and drop off yourself, as they do not deliver more than about 50 miles.

Ethan Allen is nice but pricey. There is one in Annapolis. Danker is also nice but pricey, but their furniture lasts.
Haverty's -- rather pricey. And buy an insurance protection plan for their store brands. I've had to use mine twice for a TV armoire.
Marlo -- their stuff is indeed cheap. Value City same thing, but I did buy an ottoman from there that has held up for several years.
Room Store -- they had to replace my kitchen table, so the workmanship and quality is questionable.
There's a Belfort furniture store, but it's in VA.
I hear Thomasville is nice. Not sure where the nearest one is, however.
I have a living room sofa from Jennifer's that is still hanging in there. There is a Jennifer's in Annapolis.
I like the idea of used furniture, but not exactly the upholstered stuff (unless I'm going to have it reupholstered).

I have bought multiple items from Gardiners in Catonsville and was very satisfied with the price and the quality! Sofa, recliner and a tall cedar cabinet (I was looking for one for 4 years!)

Gladhill's in Middletown, MD is a very nice high quality store...and has the prices to show it. I've gotten some very nice pieces there but have paid a high price for them. I don't expect to ever have to replace any of them.
Ikea is cheap particle board furniture. Just like Sauder products but a bit higher quality...it's great until you have to move it.

Had a good experience buying furniture at Haverty's. I think there is one out in Bowie, probably closest to annapolis. nice stuff there, kind of expensive tho. Marlo sucks. I ended up canceling an order after item was backordered and they never bothered to call and let me know they wouldn't be delivering it when I thought they would be coming.

Try Value City Furniture at vcf.com, their furniture looks more expensive than it is. It is not top quality but we had ours for a few years and it was definitely ok for the price. We have kids and the sectional survived so far, so did the leather chairs. Also we have quite a bit of IKEA furniture and it is hit or miss. I would not buy a sofa there or so but I got awesome kitchen chairs and my whole bedroom set and kids furniture all 4 to 9 years old now. If you don't mind going back if you are missing screws or parts that is. You will have to build it yourself also.
