Default Pls Help!! Moving from San Francisco, CA....need to find a quaint, beautiful MD town about an hour from Philly.

Hi,

My wife and I are expecting in Sept. Our family is in the Philly area of PA and we'd really like to be close to them once the baby arrives. So we are looking to move but the job market sucks. I can stay with my current company but can only work from MD due to tax reasons with the company. So they don't care where in MD, just that I must reside in MD. So I'm looking for the most cultured, quaint, beautiful "Annapolis" like town close to the DE border so I can be ideally no more then an hour from Philly. My wife will hang me if I try to have her live in a dead redneck town (sorry not PC but better to get to the point).

Any advise as to what I should check out?

Tx,

It does not exist. Seriously, there is nothing like that there.

Have you checked out Havre de Grace?

We are in the process of relocating and considering Easton, Md. So far we are pleased with the info. from this site about Easton. So check it out. Bethany beach, De. is nice too.

Easton is beautiful, but not an hour from Philly that is for sure!
We just moved from the area to SE PA and I would say that would easily be at least a 2 hour drive unfortunately.
Kent County on the Northern Part of the bay is close to DE but I don't know how far that is from Philly.
I am not sure that living in a quaint town like Annapolis and being only an hour from Philly is possible ?

I would not call Annapolis quaint by any means ... it is the state capital as you know and earne the dubious distinction of being the LFZ ... "Logic Free Zone" ... all kidding and politics aside I was going to mention Havre De Grace and Aberdeen. I am not that familair with the Northern part of the Eastern Shore but I think Chestertown and Cemterville could fit your bill. The area (Centerville at least) is growing. You won't find 'Annapolis' here however.

Ain't nothin' wrong with Yahoos and rednecks ... I am a weekend redneck by choice :-)

Annapolis and Easton (any on the Eastern Shore) are so much more than an hour from Philly!

Have you considered Rising Sun or Elkton? At least they are up near the state line. From your description, it sounds like you can work from home - if it doesn't matter where in MD you are. so... these are relatively small towns with no particular jobs in the immediate area, but at least they're the closest you're going to get to Philly from MD. And you'd be right near the DE border for tax-free shopping.

Tx,
I recommend Havre De Grace. It's at the northern end of Harford County and is situated where the Susquehanna River runs into the Chesapeake Bay. It's a pretty little town. There also might be some towns on the Cecil County side of the river, but I'm not as familiar with that side.

While Elkton is right on the border, it is by no means quaint. I recommend looking at Havre de Grace, although that is probably a little more than an hour from Philadelphia. Also take a look at Chesapeake City, which is along the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal in Cecil County, MD.

If you had bothered to look at a map, you'd see that only the corner of Maryland is an hour from Philadelphia...which is already at your time limit.

The whole area is different from D.C. and Baltimore. Your wife will have to live among the 'rednecks' as they are more evident in western & eastern pockets of Maryland. IMO, your wife is stupid for considering that is a bad thing. They are not out to get to you.
