I just love it there. I go back every other week to check on my house there. No I'm not rich, far from it...it is the only house we own. We are currently living in a house the golf course owns, where my husband works in Harford County MD.
I love me some Eastern Shore, Maryland, Pittsville and Willards are the most friendly and quiet towns I have ever loved!

I live in Preston. I live on the same farm I grew up on and I love it here. I think it's a perfect place to raise a family. I did move to FL. when I was in my early 20's but moved back in a year and a half. I just missed home too much.

I could go on and on, but what I miss the most is the almost continual sunshine. The traffic aint bad...just dont try to go to downtown OC on a Saturday morning say 10am-5pm in the summer. In the spring and fall it is fine and there is Sunfest and Springfest with arts and crafts and major music acts.
Let me rephrase my statement, "unless you spend all your time in Ocean City/Delaware Beaches there isnt much to do." OC isnt a yr round resort so nearly all of the mentioned activities arent available during the winter/early spring months. I know that ppl like the quiet lifestyle but Im just trying to be honest to someone who has never visited/lived here. Like I said before, if you are moving from a city with lots of conveniences & yr round activities do your homework first. There are many parts of the shore that cant get cable tv or high speed internet. Luckily I can get both.

Default have to agree with Oncesir ....

The Eastern Shore is a "nice place to raise a family" .... but that often means the same thing as "lacks anything entertaining to do."

If you don't like golf and fishing, there's not much to do outdoors. There are no good places to hike and very little in the way of decent public parks - unless you live close enough to Assateague or OC to enjoy them consistently.

Don't expect to come here and enjoy any real art festivals, decent theatre, etc. Shopping, as my wife and her friends tell me, is very sub par.

Honestly, the best thing about the ES is the crabs and Ocean City. I LOVE going to an AYCE buffet in the summertime. However, there is a severe lack of good restaurants once you get by the crab places. The boardwalk in OC is nice, but not a year 'round attraction.

Overall, the Eastern Shore is just so-so to me. I can't see myself living here forever. But some people find it just right.

Default about pocomoke...

I read all the posts but am still trying to figure out if Pocomoke City is an OK place to retire - we just want to fish and live with friendly people - no nightlife is fine - just need a coffe shop, reataurant and home depot...I have the chance to buy a major fixer upper for $45,000 but am afraid it will be in a scasry area...is there one?:

you would love it, if your into outdoor activities, and i mean outdoor activities. a lot of sparse areas which means a lot of privacy. property is cheap. the average house cost in salisbury is $97,000. salisbury is the center of the Eastern Shore. A lot of businesses there and growing significantly. You'll spend a lot I know I do. Plenty of town fairs in the summer and of course Ocean City Rehobeth Beach, and Assateague Island.

$97,000? You must be kidding. Most starter homes in decent neighborhoods are $200,000 +/-.

ROFLMAO, $97k for a house in Salisbury?? I thought the point of this forum was to provide FACTUAL info. A $97000 house in Salisbury is in a horrible part of town and is likely so run down and in need of repair that its not even worth looking at. Eastern Shore property in general isnt cheap and the more mainlanders that move here the higher the cost will continue to be. Those are the facts.
