What's with the thefts in Ocean City, MD? (violent crime, hotel)

If you look at the crime index for Ocean city, MD, I was shocked to see a massive number and the huge majority is for thefts. Can anyone expand on this issue? Can't be a typo could it?

I know that Wildwood NJ and Ocean City Md have about identical crime statistics. Wildwood was always criticized for being a wild kids hangout and Ocean City became pretty much the same but somehow people never wanted to admit it.
But I hear both are finally getting better from increased law enforcement efforts.
To me one boardwalk is the same as the rest and hotel highrises all look the same. I can't see how one is any better or worse than others.

Around 300,000 people there on a summer weekend. Many who leave their cars unlocked, others who who are throw up on their shoes drunk probably explains it the best. What is somewhat amazing is that the level of violent crime is as low as it is considering the size of the crowd and some of the activities.
