White Oak MD
My son will be moving to the White Oak area of Silver Spring, MD. He will be living in the Enclave (intersection of Rt. 29 and Rt. 650). How is the area around there as far as crime and will he be safe riding the bus to the Silver Spring Metro during off hours?

The area is okay, but man, that is a LONG bus ride to the Silver Spring Metro. How old is your son?

My son is 24 and will be attending law school in DC. Looking at the bus schedule, it is a 15 minute ride to the Silver Spring station. His other option would be to drive to a Metro, pay to park and then try to find a space. Looking at the bus schedule, it would be a 15 minute trip to the SS Metro. How safe is the White Oak shopping center and the people riding the bus?

That (general) area is terrible. The Enclave was renovated but on apartment ratings everyone says the place is infested with roaches. DH and I visited over a month ago and did not see bugs but we saw some unruly teens hanging out on the grounds. The gates were never closed and the mall near there has a lot of criminal activity.
HOWEVER, if he is alert of his surroundings he should be ok. (prayerfully).

I personally hate that area. Unfortunately someone I know lives in the neighborhood. Tasters choice but if your son could find another place closer to Silver Spring or even Rockville, it would be better for him. Just my 2 cents.

I have lived there most of my life. there is a medium amount of crime, but the place is packed with police, and is generally fine. i lived right around the enclave its a pretty ok neighborhood. And the bus ride from SS station to white oak is not that long as someone said. maybe 10- 15 minutes.

The biggest problem with the area is the traffic. So the ride will be longer than 10-15 mints. White Oak is generally a nice area. If he is going to school in DC when not move closer. Say Takoma park in DC or MD. Upper NW DC off of 14th and 16th streets. Bus line.

Woodleaf is probably the best apartment complex in that area for the quality and the amount that he would pay per month. The Enclave is a high-rise building that I would tend to steer clear of. Too many people with different living standards. There's bound to be some nastiness.

Nicely worded..thanks
Hello. I like this wording.
It is a nice but direct way of expressing a sentiment without being
blatant.
"Too many people with different living standards. There's bound to be some nastiness." Thanks
