Default How is drive from Annapolis, MD to Alexandria, VA?

Hi,

We are currently looking to move to Annapolis MD. I have job at Alexandria, VA, so I plan on commuting via 50 to 495S... According to google map, it should take 1:10... How bad does it get? I plan on leaving at 7:30 AM, and need to get in by 9 AM...

Leave at 6:30. There's almost always a backup at the Wilson Bridge, about 6 roads merge onto 495 there. The Beltway (495) is always a crapshoot.

I live in Cape St Claire (exit 29 on 50, about 2 miles from the Bay Bridge) and commute to Ft Belvoir (Springfield, Va). I leave for work about 5:50 am and get there around 7 am. Thats the easy part. Coming home is where it gets dicey. I leave work at 3 pm and it takes anywhere from 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 1/2 hours depending if there is an accident on the Beltway or on 50 or if it is a three day weekend or if there is beach traffic (or some combination of the three).

One example: This past Friday I left work at 3 pm and hit the beach traffic about 4 pm, 8 miles west of Annapolis. It took another hour and a half to get home. If you live on the west side of Annapolis it may not be as bad.

Default better to leave at 9 AM then?

Hi Pavejon,

Do you think it would be better for me to leave at 9 AM, after the morning commute subsides?

Well, at anyrate, that would be better commute than my first option... which was to drive all the way from delmar, de to Alexandria 3x a week...

I figured that would be suicidal... so we are moving to annapolis/kent island instead...

I haven't gone in that late but you would probably miss the worse of it. Getting home is another matter!
