Default Prince George's County, the new gay mecca?

washingtonpost.com

Interesting article in the Post about gay couples finding solace in Prince George's County. Although the article specifically profiled gay and lesbian couples and mentioned Mount Rainier and Hyattsville; I found the article to be more a piece on how these two cities are welcoming to all different types of people, including those of different sexual orientation. Plus, it's great when the WaPO publishes something positive about Prince George's County.

I think one of the goals of P.G. Co. is to increase the presence of the so-called "creative class," who, along with gay males, are often the first 'gentrifiers' of formerly blighted areas. Given that, it's not surprising historic towns in P.G. Co. would be especially welcoming to gay singles and couples.

Uh-oh, now that the word is out, will Hyattsville and Mt. Ranier start becoming unaffordable? Just joking, but I agree with the PP.

Those areas are within the designated arts district. So it's good news that people are seeing those areas as safe and liveable.

I actually posted that article up on my facebook page

I think its a great thing for PG County, and will add more diversity than it already has. I personally would love to own a nice home in Mt Rainier.. they are very nice - and very close to the amenities of DC - but I have to wait until this economic downturn comes back up so I can sell what I already have in Snewdy Montgomery County!

Yeah I saw the article a couple of days ago. Hyattsville is also currently being gentrified into an "Arts District." Hopefully this will have a positive effect on neighbouring communities.
