Clinton is very nice, here is my breakdown:

Schools:

Clinton has a few schools, of the three high schools where your child can attend, Surrattsville is probably the lowest, where as Friendly and Gwynn park are ranked pretty good. Middle schools wise Stephen Decater is probably on the lower end, with Burroughs or GP middle on the stronger side. For elementary, unfortunately Clinton does suffer a little, with having 2 schools (Clinton Grove and Waldon Woods) on the lower side of things with Brandywine Elementary and Ft. Wash. Forest on the stronger side. From my understanding however, a new school is in the works which will aleviate this issue.

Crime:

Virtually none, however Clinton does have a few nightclubs/bar/gentlemens clubs that could be eliminated. Tradewinds, Mile High Club, The Fish Market, Hang Time, Harley Davidson Club and Hangar Club to name a few. But as with most clubs in the area, these clubs are located near main roads, or in industrial areas and most if not all of the trouble happnes from folks from other areas coming to party, and out of control. Also the Boniwood Townhome community (as well as the one behind the Kmart) has seen better days, but all in all it is not that bad. A few awful section 8 families with absentee landlords can really do some harm. Most of the crime in Clinton is related to property crime, and that is very low. There is a poice station, Hospital and Fire Department in Clinton, and each should keep their stats as of to any problems.

Shopping:

Clinton is in close proximity to a lot of shopping, the closet being the Wal-Mart shopping center (I think its called Clinton Crossings). Nice big box stores, but from my perspective the wal mart has taken a huge leap backwards from when it first opened up. The service is bad, and your fellow shoppers have gotten a tad bit rude over time (Closest Wal-Mart to the southside of DC, right on Branch Ave). The rest of the shopping center is nice wit a Lowes, Petco, Staples and Safeway. I do most of my shopping however at the new shopping center in brandywine, which is about 5 miles down the road. FOr a while we were chased into Waldorf for shopping, but the county is making some good changes there, and hopefully we will see some good results.

Neighborhoods:

Many nice well kept neighborhoods, but also a few that still feel "rural" (Windbrook, Clinton Woods/Den Lee Acres, etc). Not saying bad or rough, just rural and out dated. But on that same note, there are also a few "out of place" mc mansions (thrift Rd)

Activities:

You have Cosca Park, which is full of hiking trails, animals and the like. They arew also building a movie theater in the aforementioned Brandywine shopping center. The roller skating rink and the bowling alley are closed, but as I was saying earlier if you are a bar type of person, there a few of those that cater to a more classy crowd (The Fish Market or Toppolinos). Also National Harbor is not that far away (about 5-10 miles).

Diversity:

Not too sure, but Clinton is majority black, with white and hispanic sprinkled in. But still all in all, I have NEVER heard of any hate issues, or anything like that (not saying it does or didn't ever happen, just saying I have never heard about it) or have been a witness or victim of it.
