Default Frederick, MD

I will be moving in a month to work in Frederick. I am debating b/w living in Frederick or moving closer to Washington D.C., maybe in Rockville (to be near the metro), Gaithersburg, or Germantown. I've only seen these places online, so it's hard to tell at this point. Any insights? Thank you.

If you're working in Frederick why would you move closer to DC and have the commute? Your commute would probably be against traffic, though. The Metro doesn't go to Frederick. It will also be more expensive in Rockville, Germantown, etc.

Herb, this area is all about a short commute if possible, like NBP alluded to. The opposite direction commute wouldn't be bad though, unless there's construction [currently yes, betw. Routes 109 and 80].

Frederick is a great town overall, with lots of restaurants, entertainment, parks, and a nice downtown area. The only reason [IMO] to live closer to DC is if you're looking for more of a "party scene." Frederick is also an excellent place for families.

Herb,
We just moved to Frederick about 2 months ago, and it's an older city, but everyone seems nice. I personally wouldn't want to live in Rockville and make the commute. My husband commutes to Rockville and it takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on construction (when he's not in rush hour), if you are going to be working in Frederick, I would suggest living in Frederick where it's cheaper.

I hear the downtown area here is really nice, but haven't found my way there yet to check it out.

Good Luck with your decision and your search.

Ditto on the live-in-Frederick vs a commute thing. Probably find cheaper rent/payment here, too.

Dawn, you've been here two months and haven't been downtown yet!?! Get thee hence and enjoy. It really ain't far from anywhere ...

Actually I did make it downtown to Baker Park and it is quite beautiful down there. Now if I could just make some friends in the area I would be all set!
