Gay in Chevy Chase, MD (20815)
My partner and I are close to the decision to move to Chevy Chase, MD and specifically, the Town of Chevy Chase area.
Would we as a gay couple be comfortable living here? We understand that CC isn't Takoma Park or Dupont Circle but we're looking for a nice house in a nice suburb close to the city. And with our getting ready to adopt, we want access to some of the best schools.
But we also want to make sure that we move to a relatively gay-friendly neighborhood where we would not need to worry about hate-crimes and the like.
Thanks in advance!

In Chevy Chase I think you would need to be more preoccupied about how green your lawn is or what's parked in your driveway over what neighbors will think of your sexual orientation.
In all honesty, I would say most of Montgomery County and perhaps most of the DC metro area including parts of VA are extremely gay-friendly. A gay couple in Chevy Chase, Bethesda or Silver Spring would hardly raise any eyebrows. There was an article in the post about more gay couples moving to Prince George's County as they were being priced out of Takoma or Dupont.
Hate Crimes against gays are here extremely low and if they occurred are well-publicized and generally not tolerated.

I live in the Town of Chevy Chase and I agree with this statement completely. In fact, you could even delete the "hardly" qualifier. A gay couple would not raise any eyebrows whatsoever.

My and & I left the Metro DC Area about 10 years ago and are returning because sooo many other parts of our great nation have a need to dictate lifestyle or discriminate in some way. One of the best things about the DC Metro Area is that a person can do their own thing (Sexual Orientation, Race, life style etc.. are non-issues). When something happens on any of these fronts, it is an "exception". My memory recall the subsequent backlash being swift.
Enjoy your new home.

Thanks for the responses. We were happy to see replies from actual residents in the Town of Chevy Chase. If anyone has anything else to offer/suggest, please feel free to do so.
Our offer was accepted - and we're likely to close in a matter of a few weeks. We're excited!

Live nearby and agree that it will be the mother of all nonissues.
This straight, right-of-center male says good choice and welcome!

You will be fine. Not to play to stereotypes but I"m sure your property will look awesome inside and out and since appearances are everything in Chevy Chase you are way ahead of heteros like me who have little style sense and ask my gay friends for help with everything asthetic.
It's a great area - if I had the $ I'd live there too.

Unfortunately, not all gay people have style sense as my partner is completely devoid of it. For example, he wants to rip out the charming red oak wood floors and replace them with laminate!
Thanks for all the positive comments! We're feeling really good about the decision.
