Default I'm thinking of moving to North College Park

I've been living in Fairfax county for a few years, I really love it here, but my wife will soon start working at a school in the Hollywood area of College Park (North College Park near Greenbelt Metro). For this reason, and the fact that I commute to DC daily, we are looking to move into that area since my wife will have no commute and mine will still be manageable.

The thing is, I don't know much about Maryland, particularly that part of PG County despite living so close for so long. It doesn't feel the same as what I'm used to, granted I live in a highly regarded part of Fairfax.

Anyway, my wife has her heart set on living in the area west of the Greenbelt Metro so she can walk to work. Can anyone tell me more about that part of College Park and College Park in general? It seems to be almost all single family houses, I assume some are rented out to students. Hows crime? Hows the neighborhood for children?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of that area isn't too bad. You've got easy access to the Metro (there is a walkway to it from the neighborhood. Shopper's Food Warehouse is there, a My Organic Market, some other stores up and down Route 1, and easy access to the beltway. It probably isn't as nice as where you are now though. I think most of the student housing is to the south in Berwyn, Lakeland, and the part near the CP Metro, but some will be in the Hollywood section too.

It's a working class neighborhood. I used to live nearby, in Beltsville, and would ride my bike thru Hollywood and neighboring Branchville all the time. Of course it's not McLean, but it's also not Seat Pleasant. Overall, I like the neighborhood but would rather live in the old town section or the Branchville section of College Park and bike to work.
