In my opinion, and that's all it is, Montgomery has not so much "gone downhill" as it's catching up with the rest of the inner suburbs. The County also has a well oiled PR machine that can turn bad events into positives with the acquiesence of the local media.

I'll give you a case in point (disclaimer 25+ year employee of PGCPS, resident of Calvert County): the PG school system went to requiring students to wear IDs years ago with very little fanfare, when Montgomery did it several years after PG there was a feature story on each of the local TV news programs and a front page in the Post Metro section. The Montgomery leaders were hailed as forward thinking, far seeing, ahead of everyone in student safety, etc.

That's being called proactive (MC) vs. reactive (PG).

Anyone that has Knowledge of Highway Numbering would know that Interstate Highways that run East/West is to have at least one Even Number and North/Shouth Interstate Highways are to have at least one odd number.

Instead of Coining US 50 with I-595 it should have I-66 Extend out to Maryland Eastern Shore by running I-66 through DC(via Tunneling through Downtown), Join US 50 at New York Avenue near Bladensburg Road, Dual I-66/US 50(along with US 301 east of Bowie) then I-66 Splits from US 50/301(1 mile South of the current US 50/301 Split) In Queens Ann County, I-66 Parallels(1-5 Mile Difference) US 50 Into Salisbury/Ocean City.

That will help resolve that Summer Beach Traffic.

Successfully Completing I-395(Formely I-95 prior to 1975) and I-66 while the Communist Dictators Blasting the former plans to build I-95 and I-270 into DC from Maryland.

Fast Forward to today:

Northern Virginia has two Interstate Highways feeding into DC Along with Several Rapid Transit Options and Arlington is named the Perfect Model for "Smart Growth".

Suburban Maryland does not have any Interstate Highways feeding into DC, Have the Smallest Number of Business Growth out of the three Jurisdictions(MD/DC/VA), and Years after the Communist Dictators Successfully Destruct the goals of Building any Interstate Highways into DC from Maryland for the sake of so-called Mass Transit the same people and New Breeds are continuing their efforts to Stop any new Highways from Being Built in Maryland along with working with Maryland Politicians to waste Money on Cheap Trolley-Like Light Rail Projects that will not Benefit the Mass Majority of the Suburban Maryland Tax Payers.

I was following this because I grew up in Silver Spring and lived there for much of my life. I now live in Virginia. Had to leave Montgomery County as it changed - not for the good.
Does it have anything to do with the Increasing Number of Latinos(mostly Illegal Immigrants) and Blacks moving into Montgomery County?????????

You're correct that 66 should have continued through DC and what is now 50 shouled be 66, but NIMBYs stopped that. They then gave 50 the designation 595 as a spur off of 95. 3 digit interstates are often spurs off of the main route.

MoCo east of Conn Ave resembles PG County as well as parts of Gaithersburg.
