Default Best bakeries near Ellicott City

Recently arrived here, and am venturing further afield now. By best, I mean two things: Which ones do you particularly like (and why), and best as in best ingredients and selection. For example, the rather generic bleached flour pastries at Safeway and the like are, to me, inedible. I see there are no Whole Foods in the immediate area, but there seems to be a Trader Joe's
not too far away. I'm interested in non-chain, neighborhood favorites. I'm looking mainly for sweets, but savory things will work as well. I'm open to any nationality. Any help from the locals would be....delicious. Thanks in advance!

We just moved to Ellicott City ourselves and have found HowChow, a Howard County Food Blog to be an invaluable resource. I can't recommend any bakeries yet, but I can definitely recommend the blog as a resource!

There's a bakery in downtown Ellicott City (used to be Fisher's but has changed names recently). Unfortunately, they don't make their own dough (has it trucked in) so it's not exactly like the bakeries me and my wife were used to in NY and PA. In other words, we're still searching.

Do you like unusual pastries? The last time I visited Han Ah Rheum, the korean grocery store on ROlling road they had lots of delicious cake, buns, cookies and other freshly-made pastries. They also have a great variety of fresh fish that can be cut/scaled/filleted or whatever to order. I think there be a Lotte (may be similar) right in Ellicott City that you can try, too.
