Grove Park Apartment in Clopper Road - is it dangerous? ghetto? (lease, sex offenders)

I am considering an amazing moving in deal ... But I read crazy and scary reviews/comments on apartmentrating.com. Anyone here has personal experience?

Have you signed the lease yet? If not, don't. The area surrounding it is OK, but the complex itself is unsafe and unclean. I hesitate to use the term "ghetto", which is so often misused on these boards, but Grove Park has seen more than its share of gang activity, drugs, robberies, assaults, etc. Granted, such things happen throughout Montgomery county, (and everywhere else, I suppose), but here it happens in open view, without fear of the authorities.

If you already signed the lease, it's not the end of the world. You'll at least be close to stores, bus lines, and I-270. You'll find lots of decent people among your neighbors. Many could afford nothing better, many others moved there from outside the area. Good luck, whatever you choose.

I am not sure when the other person lived in Grove Park but I currently live here and I disagree wholeheartedly. Yes, I know there were problems a few years ago (the house next door was raided by the feds), but the management company has made changes that are very evident. There is an employee of the management company living in most courts and security and police presence is very evident. The kids love playing in the neighborhood, but they are very well controlled. The management company makes sure people are taking care of the houses so there isnt excessive junk and the neighborhood looks good. The police drive through just enough to let me know my neighborhood is safe. Background checks are done to make sure no sex offenders move in the area. I love it!

Note: I did not move here because I couldnt afford anywhere else nor am I new to the area. I moved here because of the schools and the neighborhood.
