I understand you are a graduate of UMCP. Have you seen the proposed development of the east campus along the Route 1 corridor? If not here it is:

http://www.eastcampus.umd.edu/InitConcept.cfm

Some info. regarding where things stand:

Univ. Md. ready to choose developer for east campus - Washington Business Journal:

The developer they have chosen Foulger-Pratt I believe also were part of the Silver Spring project.

Yep, UMCP grad. This looks great. Haven't been on campus for many years, but there was nothing even close to this when I was there.

Every one of these revitalization projects brings us one step closer to the vision we have for the county and one step further away from all the negative perceptions about what's going on here. I absolutely love living in PGC and do my best to represent well. Sometimes I daydream about quitting my job and devoting all my time to the schools and community organizations, but then I remember that little thing called a mortgage and that brings me back to reality.

Hey Matt! You sound like my brother from another mother. I'm a motivational speaker and writer (on the side). I've worked as a community activist with a organization called ACORN. You don't have to quit your job to get involved. It's good people like you that keep me motivated so that's something right? When you see a young person take an interest in them and offer some words of encouragement. Plant seeds wherever you go. Every little bit helps.

Maat is a kemetic (Egyptian) term denoting truth righteousness and justice. If I stand correct I believe this is the poster's intent in his forum name not Matt.

Familymatters: In the diversity thread you mentioned wanting to leave Largo as you indicated the area is deteriorating. I know the area well. Can you elaborate some on that?

Agreed, you can never underestimate the power of planting a seed. I volunteer as much as I can but work sometimes keeps me from doing as much as I'd like. When I see the momentum we're building and the excitement in the community about the future of the county I just want to be out there doing something. But you're right, every little bit helps.

Maat...how did I miss that? My apologies. Thanks for pointing that out RFMD.

Actually...I reside just outside of Largo (Seat Pleasant). I don't even like admitting on a virtual forum that I live there. Not good.

I tell people I work with that I live in Largo because most of my co-workers have no knowledge of Maryland neighborhoods since they reside in DC or VA. My wife and I were separated, I grabbed something economical just incase. My thing is I'm paying close to 1,300 to live in a bad neighborhood, why not pay 1,700 - 2,300 and live in a nice neighborhood?

My wife and I worked through our differences. Her lease was up, I'd already renewed mine. Mommy and daughter move in with Daddy and son. 2 years later we're still there in that area. We must move.

This forum has reminded me that Prince Georges has much work to do in tiny pockets. For now, I just happen to live in one of those tiny pockets. You get what you pay for. And now that I won't be needing lawyers etc..; it's time to leave.

If I lived in that small area surrounding the stadium I'm sure we would be happier. There's a big difference between Largo and Seat Pleasant, though seeing how unpredictible PG is, one block nice, 2 blocks over not so nice, 3 blocks over fougedaboudit!...there's probably neighborhoods in Seat Pleasant which are pretty good, just not where I reside.

Ok. I've come clean.

Why don't I feel better lol

I understand. I was surprised when Largo was mentioned as deteriorating. The area is developing nicely with the Metro being there. Some nice condos are going in there

Brand New Condominiums located at Largo Town Center and the Metro – Midtown Largo

Parts of Seat Pleasant can be questionable in regards to raising a family. It is sad that a few people living in these neighborhoods can destroy the fabric of these communities. You need to do what is best for your family.

The redevelopment of the Landover Corridor, Suitland, Hyattsville and other areas inside the Beltway is key to the viability of this county.

Also that is good that you are giving back to the community. I plan to get involved in some aspect to improve the community which I live in. We are all in this thing together.
