Fenty said after the Poplar Point redevelopment, that's it. He wants to focus on affordable housing and other development that, as he said, will benefit everyone. I think anything he does in that regard will benefit PGC. |

Sorry RF I don't, but I know the WP had a good article and the statistics back when they did a story on the end of forced busing in PG a few years back. It's just the best that I can recall right now. By the way the busing in '73 was a result of Brown vs BOE '54 so PG only stalled it 19 years. Do you know who was the lead attorney for Brown?

I was under the assumption that the migration did not occur until the early 80's. Landover Mall initially was home to the upscale retailer Garfinkels. My thinking would be that they would not put such a retailer in an area such a Landover with such demographics as exist today or even if it were close to 50/50. I 'am interested to know the attorney for the Browns. When you read the history of this country it is very sad. |

The lead attorney for Brown was Thurgood Marshall later to serve on the US Supreme Court. Also when we first moved into Palmer Park ('66) the site that is now Landover Mall was a junk yard full of old cars. By the time the riots started most white people had sold their houses in Palmer Park at a loss and there was a domino effect in the surounding areas. You can always tell a white person who was around that area at that time because they will refer to State Highway #704 as George Palmer Highway. I must confess I still call it that too. An old habit I still haven't broken.

Landover Mall excavation started in about '69. I think the committment to build and retailers that were to go in were made before we block busted Palmer Park. Dodge View, Bel Haven and others fell shortly after that. I remember the day the mall opened though. It was state of the art at the time. But for sure Palmer Park was predomitly black by '70-'71

I always had a good feeling about him. His parents have been activists in DC since the 60s and some of that probably rubbed off on him. So far he has taken over the school system, asked for a better distribution of the police officers (like move more of them east of Rock Creek park), started fixing the healthcare system that Tony Williams dismantled, and slowed down the developers. That's a pretty good start.

The problem is that Maryland is too liberals so we allow the ghetto people from DC and illegal aliens from abroad to move here. Talk about Mayor Williams all you want folks but we don't see the ghetto being pushed into Virginia. Even in MD, we don't see the Baltimore ghetto spreading into surrounding areas. The problem is PGC nto being able to stop the influx.
Can't believe this thread is still up top. Pg County IS a ghetto, anyone I know who is not from PG and has been there has said it is very ghetto. |

Yep, lol... Maybe posting negative comments about PGC gets you a lot of reputation points... Why else would someone waste their time posting the same ignorant comment over and over and over again...
