Take it from a PG native: PG Sucks! Just driving through is no way to really experience it. Where do you get off telling us Marylanders about a place in our state, I think we might know a little better. While it's true that outside the beltway is a wealthy suburb, inside the Beltway is trash, absolute garbage. All it is an extension of the Southeast D.C. ghetto. With the exception of places like College Park, University Park, Greenbelt and a few other pockets, Prince George's is horrible. Between Baltimore and PG, Maryland (or Murdaland) is the kill capital of the whole nation. In 2005 PG had 164 murders. That is horrible for a so-called "suburban" county.

I have to agree with JaBradshaw...PG County is the suburbs of SE/NE DC. The demographics here have no boundaries between them. It's absurd to think that the county does not have the same crime if not more (per capita) than DC. We might as well build a 30 foot wall around the district and check points to keep out the natural born thugs out of the county. However, too late for that. One has infiltrated...he made all the way to the top as county executive!

2005 was two years ago. Fact#1 Philadelphia with over 200 murders so far, is the murder capital of the US. Fact#2 Parts of PG are right on the DC border, why wouldn't it look the same across the street, unless you have a plan for putting up walls where no one can penetrate them?
I guess becasue I have lived here all my life I do not think it is so horrible IMO. I love it here, and the only reason that I would move is because of the lack of jobs. Again, their are people that live in PG that have never been victims of crime. Travel around and see different places and then tell me if PG is complete garbage. Parts of Anne Arundal are garbage where it borders with Glen Burnie and Baltimore county, my mother lives out there and I absolutly hate it!

As I made clear in my post, places like Upper Marlboro and Bowie are fine, well-to-do places. People keep bringing up Philly, but how about Baltimore, which also has over 200 murders already. That's not the point though, what I'm getting at is that it's really horrible that a "suburban" county can have such a high murder rate. I grew up in Palmer Park, and saw first hand the transition from well kept lawns and block parties to people dealing crack. At one time there was a fine line between city and county, and a sense of community. That line is now gone.

This is so true, for a suburb PG has homicide, violence, and crimes like a major city. For the amount of money people pay to live in PG County, it should be one of the best places to live in in the east coast. Its funny that you mentioned Palmer park, my s/o family lives around there. I only been to their once and that place is a pathetic sh**thole. Nothing but drug dealing, crackheads, preteens drinking and smoking on the corner, and all sorts of mischief activity you can think of. Its a shame that people actually have "houses for sale" in that neighborhood, and when I did some research on the MLS to see how much they were going for, they were in the range of $200,000+!!!! I was like you got to be kidding me??!! Those houses at the MOST should be worth $58,000. I wouldnt live in that neighborhood, (or anywhere in landover/glenarden to be exact), even if they gave me the house for free fully furnished. Have you seen the preview of the new project they are trying to build at the old Landover Mall?? Its gonna be called Woodmore Towncenter, with luxury apartments, condos, high end stores including a WEGMANS!!! A development like that should be nowhere around there. This should prove to be VERY interesting.

Give it a rest - you know not of what you speak
Yeah, nothing but preteen drinkers/smokers/crack addicts in Palmer Park.

You don't live here, you don't have to shop at Woodmore, don't worry about it...

Not being defensive at all, just pointing out the ignorance of your comment(s). Anytime you use words like "all", "none", or in your case "nothing but", etc. in a sentence when speaking about a large group of people or anything else, you are almost guaranteed to be proven wrong. I think I learned that in 2nd grade english. You probably didn't bother to read the article. Or if you did, you ignored it because the kids profiled don't fit your limited view of that community.
Last month you were looking for singles in Columbia. A month later you've already met someone whose family lives in Palmer Park, you've visited Palmer Park once, and you're an expert on all the kids who live there. Please...
Again, you don't live here - don't worry about it.
