Okay, here's a bright idea! You know what PG needs??? Yes, that's right a makeover. Here's the idea. Okay, I’ll take it straight out of the white America makeover book edition 145 chapter 3 (if you have it please follow along).
Rule one if one part of your neighborhood or county sucks you call the nicer, wealthier, cleaner, and prestigious area West of wherever the ugly, nasty, drug infested, murderous, did I mention nasty? Area is located.
Let’s use some real life examples take “East Saint Louis" dangerous part of the city of STL. In Boston you have "Roxbury" and "West Roxbury" always remember "West" denotes the difference in area typically it denotes its the nicer area and even though they have the same name there is a huge difference. East or just plain name typically denotes dangerous and not pleasant.
Okay, are you still with me?? Great!! Well, here's my idea for PG.!! Ready, here's the new commercial.
We start off showing only "upper class" blacks in their big 6000 sq ft houses, nice cars, green lawns, and picket fences in "Western Prince Georges County" or perhaps we call it "Northern Prince Georges County" let's make sure the commercial denotes the difference between regular Prince Georges County or better let’s call the bad parts “East Prince George County” which is extremely tainted dirty and dangerous.
However Western Prince George County is for winners, successful white collar professionals, families, no crime, great school system (one can dream for now), and manicured lawns, European sports cars, golf courses, proper English speaking children, that dress preppy as opposed to thuggy.
Okay, seriously you can no longer change the image of what PGC means, but you can change the name of locations as opposed to calling it Upper Marlboro, Bowie, Mitcheville, Woodmore, Glen Dale, Crofton, and whatever else is on the other side of the beltway in that area let’s make it simple and refer to it in the commercial and new magazines as Western Prince Georges County and display that view.
However, if you played that commercial outside of the state within the state and in other counties you'd see that people would come to the conclusion, that there are two PGC one called “East Prince Georges County” which is nasty dirty and dangerous and “Western Prince Georges County” which is nice, professional, clean, and non dangerous.
At this point that is the best hope for PG. Stop making the county one place do what whites do when one side of the town is bad. Change the name of the nice side and call it something else, so people outside know the difference. Trust me they will. I bet we'll start to hear wow, Western Prince Georges County is so nice and clean and non dangerous, but "East Prince Georges" County near DC is dirty dangerous and nasty. Trust me this will be best. Make it two different counties in both reality and theory.
Don’t forget here are some other examples
“East LA” “West LA” etc
I’m sure you can think of others….

LOL, too funny. I just thought about my hometown Laurel. It has a "West Laurel" and that's where most of the nice homes are and one of the best elementary schools in PG County. And people do say they live in "West" Laurel as to differentiate from the rest of the poor town folk from "Old" Laurel.

Because everyone is realizing the potential and that not only West Laurel. There are nice throughout Laurel and some if not most have nice sub-divisions and even nicer than the ones in West Laurel so I think that`s why nobody really tries to differentiate the other parts as compared to West Laurel and I live in Laurel and have been to all parts in all of the four counties so I know from first hand experience.

Crofton is NOT in PG County
CROFTON is NOT in PG County, it is in Anne Arundel County. Bowie is the beginning of PG County.

Okay, big deal both Ann Arundel and Prince Georges County suck in my opinion maybe "Crofton" should annex itself to Howard the only somewhat decent non bigot county in Maryland!

The perspective through your car window indeed seems quite nice. By chance, did you drive through Suitland?

As a West Laurel resident, I would like to point out that it has been around since the 1940's. It is not some new creation like North bethesda or north potomac
I often run into people who tell me they're from Laurel, who only upon further inquiry, tell me they're from West Laurel. I can't speak for all my neighbors, but I certainly don't consider any part of Laurel to be poor or to be beneath me in any way. I have just as much affection for Laurel City as I do West Laurel. Which is why my handle is not WestLaurelEngineer.
