It's not that PG sucks and is a complete hellhole, but their image really really does suck and people don't take an active role to change it. When I drive through PG and almost get sideswiped by a crew of 19-year olds on motorcycles going 110mph, that looks bad. When I pull to a gas station and the car next to me is BLASTING F**K, S**T, and nastiness out of its car speakers, that looks bad. When I go grocery shopping and get bombarded by winos asking for change, that looks bad. When I walk around in my business suit and see a grown man walking with his pants below his butt, THAT LOOKS BAD!

Wanna change the image? DON'T EXASCERBATE IT!!! Respect your fellow motorists and don't drive your SUV like a freaking sports car. Turn down the volume when you pull into a public place, because not everyone likes your particular taste in music. See your kids or nephews or cousins looking and talking ghetto, tell them that is unacceptable!!!!

By the way, it has nothing to do with "no one wants to see rich black people." That comment is just stupid. Oh, and I lived in Hyattsville for 4 years, then college park for 3.

Whenever I am in Montgomery county I always see bums begging for money, especially on Montrose road or by DSW going toward Montgomery road and i Silver Spring by the Metro or In wheaton. Motorcyclist are all over. How about last night when I was in Montgomery county and 2 Montgomery county young youth was car racing on the beltway, that was horrible and you need to talk to your young youth in Montgomery county about car racing on the street. I know plenty of folks here have seen wiggers blasting rap music in Montgomery county. Just memo to you 70% of people who purchase rap music are white youth not blacks. 70%-80% of people who attend rap concerts are white not black. What you mention above have nothing to do with the county, its more individuals not the entire county. Whenever you mention or make a statement it is so racist because you sound like whites donot do the same thing as you mention about blacks in Pg county. Whites ride motorcycle at a fast speed,white listen to rap music,whites are bums. If you are making a statement try to make one that is fair.

The reputation that Prince George's county has is completely undeserved. That being said there are towns in the county that well deserve the reputation. That is the problem: what happens in a few, small "bad" areas gets labeled on the whole county.

There are lot of reasons for this grossly unfair defamation, but instead of talking about race or the unfair comparisons of this up-and-coming county to the long built-out mature wealth centers, I will just mention one. There is a countywide police force so that whenever crime occurs anywhere in the county the name of the whole county is invoked. Add to that the fact that crime in PG seems to get much more attention. People get mugged in Alexandria everyday, but you rarely hear about it. If you were to compare town for town, you would find that in most of Prince George's there is no more crime than anywhere else.

As for the schools, that is a problem, but also grossly exaggerated. One of the highest rated high schools in the country is in Prince George's county. Further the county is working on the problem. The county now spends more than $2000 more per student than Fairfax or Montgomery. Eventually that should have an effect.

What is in Prince George's county? The University of Maryland, the Redskins, the National Harbor resort complex, the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, several country clubs (including PGA golf courses), national parks, the most residential waterfront of any county adjacent to DC, wildlife and much, much more.

Prince Georges county is the only place where you can from your home watch a bald eagle snatch a fish out of the water before you head to work in the morning and get to DC in 20 minutes, board a boat from your own private dock and cruise to Georgetown or the Chesapeake, go for a bike ride in a national park, go a couple blocks to play a round of golf, and come home to watch the sunset over the river. THERE IS NO OTHER AREA IN THE DC METRO THAT HAS ALL OF THAT. This is no exaggeration. I am describing Tantallon on the Potomac, which is in Prince George's county. Look in up on Mapquest and you will see the locations I described.

It is not just nice, it's amazing and is the best kept secret in the DC metro. In fact, I left Northern Virginia to move there and get way more for my money.

I USED TO live in Fairfax and had a very damn good upbringing while I was there. Especially compared to the crap I received when I moved to PG County (and in that case, when I moved to Maryland in general). lscalder-I don't believe that ebo202 ever brought skin color into their post, but here you go acting like it was an insult to blacks.
I'm curious as to how you know that the people racing on the beltway were from Montgomery County? Were you able to stop them and get their address? Saturday, I was on the beltway by the Greenbelt Metro (PG County) and saw two men in trucks flipping each other off and revving their engines and acting like idiots. They were in PG County at the time, but I don't know if they were from PG County- not that it should matter.

Actually, I understood perfectly. While Ebo202 did mention that the incident with the motorcyclist occurred in PG County, they never specifically said that the motorcyclists must therefore live in PG County. You, however did blame the racing incident that you witnessed on Montgomery County youth, without having any way of knowing where the drivers were from.
Also, ebo did not say anything about BLACK youths blasting rap music- but you specifically said, " white youth blasting their music or cursing". Maybe you should read the post a little more carefully before replying to them, although if anyone else on here thinks that I'm off base, I'd love to hear their opinion.

What's interesting about PG county is even when it was overwhelmingly white it still got a bad rap. The county was full of blue collar 'rednecks and greasers' with no college degrees and weird maryland accents. Many don't know this but when school desegregation started white parents were upset about their kids being bused to black schools but many black parents were also upset about their kids in places like Seat Pleasant being bused to blue collar 'redneck/greaser' schools like Bladensburg HS where subjects like auto mechanics were taught.
