Attended PG public schools for senior year only. Pretty decent at the time, but then George Washington was U.S. President, too.

Now this is the kind of conversations we should be having, nothing having to do with race, or economic situations. We should be having discussions on how to work to better the county, not degraded it by pointing fingers and making unfounded accusations about race, after all were all one county with the same problem regardless of what part of the county you live in it affects all of us

I remember a few years ago my mother use to look in the style section of the Wash. Post at the dept. store ads for Woodies, Hechts and sometimes Garfinckels. There would nice ads for desiger wear. Then at the bottom it would say: Not available at Landover, Iverson or PG Plaza. In my neighborhood any kind of nice restaurant was non-existent. Let's see, Popeye's, Long John Silver, Roy Rogers and oh, for upscale dining HOT SHOPPES CAFETERIA. PG County is not the worst place in the world to live and things seem to be improving but it was time for us to move out.

When my mother did not find the clothing options she wanted at Hecht's Department stores in the county, she complained to the store manager. She would then write the company headquaters. It works. If you just accept inferior products or fewer options then you get what you get. The Marlow Heights store changed its plus size options when women complained and demanded better.
I used to work at Hecht's part time while in college. They took all customer complaints and requests seriously. Some customers would even receive gift certificates as a "thank you", for helping to improve the store. A group of parents in Bowie complained about the clothing in the Juniors section and the store started to sell clothes that were considered more appropriate for that age range. The one thing that doesn't work is driving hours away from your home to shop.
I enjoy my home and community. I work to bring the things I want into the community. But if it doesn't work for you, you should move. Everyone should find the place that suits them best.

This is an example of what I've been trying to tell you all, someone who cares enough about their community to try to make a change, this is something we should all be doing.

PG Bashing...If you want a Trader Joes find one and move into it!!!!
All I see is complaint after complaint...what are you going to do about it????

The pages were roughly 30% constructive and the rest just wandering fodder.
As to finding a Trader Joe's - shopping at the same old Safeway, Giant or Shopper's Food Warehouse isn't the same as finding a higher quality of foods one can at Joe's. Make the trek on over to VA and experience it personally.
I had to hunt down the dairy manager at the Giant in my locale and ask him to stock a better grade of yogurt than the standard candy flavored crap that is regularly found there.
Shopper's and Safeway are the only two of the big 3 that have any real produce.
In today's world of 60% of Americans being obese fresh produce is real food. McDonald's and KFC will kill you,
Dried fruits and reasonably priced nuts, easy to carry, are far better for you than fast foods. Real selections of those can only be found at Joe's.
As far as "what are you going to do about it????" Take my business to VA and shop there. The sad reality there is most of PG county already does so and is the reason most business ventures die out before they even get past their Grand Openings. Blacks and whites are guilty of this.
How many prefer that big Mall near the Pentagon for shopping compared to anything here in MD?
Where did the majority of all of you do your Christmas Shopping?
Springfield and Landmark malls are far more successful than any shopping along the MD side of the beltway.
Am I telling truth or not? Be honest!

I can honestly say that I did none of my Christmas shopping in VA. I never do. If you want quality products stocked in your local stores, you have to demand them. If you continue to run into VA, you will never get what you want here. Complain to the store managers, email the company. It will work.

HAHAHAHAHA! If you can find anyone that knows what is going on in most retail stores in the Temple Hills region you are one in a million. Most don't care because you are "making them work" if they have to go out of their way. I have been told as much several times.
The regional businesses lack any customer service credibility from the managerial level down to clerical.
There is a Cici's Pizza place at Rivertown and it pales in comparison to that in Montgomery or in VA.
WHY???
Admit it, the citizens of PG county have grown used to second class customer service on all levels and expect no different. How would you suggest a change of the mindset of owners, managers/employees so that they are acceptable?

Same goes to all counties in Maryland. If you go to areas in Montgomery county where their plenty of low income families, you will have horrible customer service. If you do visit Bowie which have the highest income in Pg county, you will get good customer service. WHy? because of the different income. People in Pg county know to live in Bowie your family does not fall into the low income family so you get better customer service. Every state and county have the horrible customer service but in certain areas.
