Wealth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The American Affluence Research Center
Maybe the concept of net worth has more meaning to this discussion then abstract wealth. 300K income and 1.5million debt is not helping with the old net worth. However 75K income and 300k net worth is or isn't wealthier? Hmmmmm you tell us?
Which situation would you want to be in?

When I graduated in 1986 the SAT scores were over 1100 avg. and today they are at a sorry 830. Crime in all areas has jumped nearly 60% across the board from 1984-2004, with murders over 250% increase over the same time. And lets not even talk about the crack epidemic that was in full swing around '85 to the present. And I now hear getting heroin is as easy to get as in Baltimore. Before I left my family was the victim of 2 crimes and enough was enough-I packed up and got out. I have been living now in beautiful Anne Arundel Co. for the past 17 years, and have not once experienced a crime towards me or my family. But for a few of my friends who have remained, they call me numerous times with the "you wouldn't believe whats going on now"! If you turn the local news on basically it's the P.G. county hour! For those of you who say P.G. is a good place, you are in denial. I always tell anyone who doesn't know about Md. to stay away from P.G. county. Period This is not a good place to raise your kids at all, unless you want them to turn into thugs.
Don't take my word for it-Go to P.G. county police.com crime statistics and see for yourself.

I almost forgot! Well I did! stolen cars in P.G. went up some 350% between 1994-2004. That being said, insurance rates are nearly double that of Anne Arundel co. If you ask why you'll get 20 different reasons. My understanding is the high amount of unregistered vehicles, dead tags, stolen tags, non insured vehicles. And the high amount of aggressive driving that for some reason seems to be more prevalent in the county=more unnecessary accidents than surrounding areas.
To bring my point home, my wife reminded me of this. In 2004 I bought a ford cobra brand new which was 1 of 280 produced. I laid 10k on it and financed the rest. In 2005 I was hit by a stolen car in beltsville, md (p.g.), the accident sent both of us to the hospital and totaled the car. The driver of the other vehicle fled on foot and P.G. co. police could not catch the hoodlum even with a helicopter. After all was said and done suing my ins. and the state of md.'s Uninsured motor vehicle fund which was set up just for this type of event-Basically I lost the 10k I put down-and the state paid nothing-I can fill 100 pages on this thread about P.G. county, Md.

What you just mention happens in every single state and county. People cars get stolen in every county in Maryland so why only point on one county. I pay $160.00 on 2 cars in pg county. both are 2004 models. I have no idea where you got that all pg county residents pay high insurance. I know plenty of people in both Montgomery and Arundel co
who pays higher car insurance then I do. If you are going post something do not generalize because everything that happens in Pg county happens in every State, county, city in America.

My 36 years on this earth and 20 yrs living there and 16 passing through, I'd have to disagree with you-I still haven't forgot about the 10k I lost over being hit by a stolen car in P.G. My ins. was cut in half by geico when i moved out of P.G. into A.A., yes I know what I'm talking about. And the crime there is horrendous. The schools are sub par, not even to mention the trash thats starting to pile up on the sides of the roads!

I had a brand new truck stolen out of my driveway in 1993 - the police report was taken over the phone with no sense of urgency.

And what part of PG did u live in? The insurance varies on the different areas of PG County as well. When I lived in Fort Washington my insurance was $130 a month, but that's because I was under 25 at the time. When I turned 25 and moved to New Carrollton (which has a hgh car theft rate bcuz of all the car jackings at New Carrollton's metro station and is more congested than Fort Wash), instead of my insurance going down it went up $80.
Both cities are in PG.... on total opposite sides. Don't generalize the entire county as BAD. Like lscalder says... stuff like ths happens in every county. I don't hear you saying anything about the car theft rate in Fairfax County going up after the influx of Hispanics moving there.....

I don't know anything about Fairfax Co. Yes crime happens all over, we all know that. We all know Baltimore is crime ridden also, everyone knows that. Not everyone knows about P.G. Co., do they? And how would they when there are people saying good things about it-I love facts and now dispute these. When someone asks you about a place they want to live, tell them the truth-not your truth. If I was on here and had to move quickly and took your word for this place, moved here and then found out the truth-I'd be mad as h***. I was here in the late '70's when you could leave all your windows open in the house and come home from work10 hours later and no problems, I remember my mom leaving the keys in her car for weeks at a time and it not be stolen. Everything good I know about this county are all memories. Huh last night I had to go to Lowe's in bowie to pick up a specific Item only they had, while leaving my wife and I witnessed a drug deal in the parking lot. Unbelievable
As of 2006, the county reportedly contains the highest crime rate for the Washington Metro area, comparable to Baltimore. [6][7]
Look at maryland violent crime rate
Maryland Crime Statistics: 1985 - 2006
Let the facts speak for themselves
you can also look near the bottom for ucr motor vehicle theft-and see no other county can touch P.G.on that one

Anywhere outside the beltway will generally be cheaper than inside for car insurance- when I moved from PG to Howard, my insurance went down almost $200 per every six months- even though I was losing a multi car discount because of moving away out of the home with other family members who had the same insurance. I was thrilled- I asked my agent why it went down so much, he said it was because of the difference in stolen car statistics in the zip codes and because of moving outside of the beltway. That of course is pretty general, since your car insurance is also based on your personal driving record- and not just the area you live in, although they do factor that in.

Thanks Jessy- I knew others had experienced this also!!! I will never understand how anyone can defend such a place? Maybe I can see things others can't? Or maybe some people live in denial? In the case of defending P.G. county, I would say serious psychological evaluation maybe in order!

Certainly not my cup of tea either however it is for some people. One of the great things about Maryland is that it has/had a little of everything for you to choose from. If someone likes PG then great for them and great for the county. Someone else might want Calvert and that flavor. There are many choices here for you to select from. The major problem is that we have seen so much change and where you purchased years ago may have changed and it is not your cup of tea anymore. With the major market slowdown and limited ability to sell that can leave people stuck and bitter. PG is different then what it was 30 years ago. As a minority I and others were terrified by the stories of the PG police department I don't think that is true anymore.
