How does a realestate agent say "*********"?
It comes out sounding like "trust me".
I love PG county and I love white women!

Trust me when I say the only ones who have had a good experience in the county either live in one of the few livable places in this otherwise crap shoot, or they're just plain militant black conformists who live by what they see in rap videos, are criminals/drug dealers/thugs/unemployed bums, and/or do all they can in order to "keep it real."

Unless you have a survey that has polled everyone that resides in PG County then you have no backing for what you think other people are thinking. I can tell you many people that I know have lived good lives here and are proud to be from here.
If you have no sense of community pride then what are you living in that area for? It boggles the mind....

Well, I was only quoting the previous comment that liliblu had made where they used the quote.... What's the problem with that?
I wasn't trying to attack anyone or be demeaning, I was just commenting on the fact that everyone sees things through their own mind's eye, and you can't expect everyone to be fair and impartial because they are drawing current conclusions based off of past experiences.

Very Accurate statement!!! My biggest problem with the county is that militant black group think s&*t. They all wear the same clothes talk like ignorant and listen to that horrid go-go crap. If you do not and you happen to be black you're outcasted and attacked. Hence why i'd never raise kids in this environment. Its funny and sort of ironic the same kids that run around yelling for people to respect their creativity in doing ghetto things and acting ghetto are the same ones that chastise the blacks that choose not to act like that. Now, that's not to say all of the people or teens fall under this, but again the majority of them do and that's where i see the problem. You cannot get progress when everyone thinks alike, especially when its usually negative thinking.

I very much agree with what you said. I'm a 27-yr old Black man that grew up in Fort Washington, MD, and while I will readily defend the county I grew up in, at the same time, the black conformists that you speak of drive me crazy. Speaking and complaining about it instead of doing something about it doesn't help the cause though.
I went to high school with the people you speak and moved to NC to go to college afterwards. Afterwards, I moved back here and looked at PG from a totally different perspective. Some of the people I grew up around are really bad off. Luckily for me, I was NEVER one of those black conformists, and I always questioned their ways. I've never had that ignorant sounding DC accent..... I was always accused of talking "white" and when asked what that meant they would say "proper"..... and when I responded with "as opposed to sounding Black? how does that sound" I would never get a response back. I've never dressed the part nor did I find it cool to flunk every class. i've always tried to make these people think about what they say and try to educate, but it usually doesn't help.... I don't know what that's about. I assume their way of life is embedded too far.
However, what trips me out about this forum is that a lot of these people are taking this stuff out on the WHOLE county. People keep bringing up crime stats and how astronomical they are (i.e. doubbltunman who danced all around my post that he responded to a couple pages back). Did you bother to look to see WHERE most of these crimes were taking place? DC crime (as bad as it still is) decreased in the late 90s/early 00s... just when PG County started really going on the upswing. This was also around the same time when gentrification started in DC. 75% of the crime in PG occurs within 5 miles of the DC border (even though that's how it's ALWAYS been... even before the gentrification). Do you see the logic? I hope you do.... don't blame everything happening on the inside of the Beltway on the whole county.

I had to stop and delete my response three times before I realized that you don't believe half of what you write. Few livable places? Militant Blacks? I hope people with your mind set are leaving the county. I hope you leave the state of Maryland. Someone with such negativity, so quick to label and judge only hurts a community.

Actually, The people that I grew up with and who I continue to be friends with are all in college, have a sense of real fashion trends(Juicy,Sevens, Citizens,Elle Moss, French Connection and Vintage...etc.), listen to go-go, rap, hip-hop and r&b because they know the difference between entertainment and real life(clearly we are not stupid), and have very good interships, jobs...etc and we have never talked like ignorant (maybe some of us need to reread before we press submit). Nearly all of my friends in high school had a 3.0 or better and no one teased us about acting white and I went to Largo...another place the news and people who knew nothing of the school tried to vilify, but actually helped me academically!
The people most of you describe are people you have seen on the news or in DC(not lumping them all together just saying some....)
Fairfax? Haven't they had some crime issues lately...the Metro section is filled with news from that area of Virginia...

When I was in high school, I lived in Temple Hills and attended Potomac High in Oxon Hill. I was never teased for "acting white". Most of the students I had classes with were good students. Were they all angels? No. But most have accomplished their goals and are living good lives.

Let me ask you a question. Where and in what part of the county did you grow up?
When you attended Largo were most of the children there "Non Ghetto?" and upper class? Or were the majority of the children poor, working class (lower middle) and middle class? How many people in the school came from the following
2 Parent Household
How many attended an Ivy League school
or
A top 100 university as ranked by USA Today? After graduation?
How many ended up at HBC?
How many ended up at U of M?
What was the precentage that decided to attend college after graduating?
Now, you can live a very sheltered life in PG if your parents are very in fact extremely involved. I agree if you have non militant well educated parents (not that in PGC a great education keeps the people from acting militant), but you can easily be shelterd from most of the "ghetto" inhabitants.
As with any location
Upper class people tend to associate with other upper class people
Mildde class people tend to associate with other middle class people
Lower middle class etc
and Poor etc
However, in my experience in Highschool the Poor and Lower Middle class kids seemed to be the "cool" one's and seemed to be very destructive to the "middle" and "upper middle" kids. When I attended school i also observed they were by in large the majority of kids and they set the agenda albiet very stupid and to a greater extent i thought it sad to see middle and some upper middle kids buy into the poor ghetto kids agenda of self loathing and celebrating ghetto culture (this goes for blacks and whites).
Having lived in both a predominately white environment and then a predominately black the big difference i have observed is that black kids seem to want to be labled by their poor and lower middle classes and the black kids that do not buy into that idea of "blackness" get labled and attacked. Whites when the predominate group tend to hate thier poor and not acknowledge them at all and they tend to buy into they are all rich and well off etc.
In PGC there were so many kids that were proud to come from single parent home ( as if it was a badge of honor), have food stamps, sell drugs, have a family member that went to jail, racist, destructive to black kids that did not come from those households etc.
There were also a small portion of kids that came from homes that were two parent, well to do, educated, spoke well, didn't fall into the stereotype from both middle and upper middle incomes, but they were by no means the majority in terms of thought and practice by the groups at large.
Maybe you're part of that small group?
