TerryandTourey, while incomes are lower in Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore, cost of living is also lower. I have some friends from Cumberland and Hagerstown and love it. There's still commerce there and tourism is developing especially around Deep Creek Lake. And now many companies are moving to Frederick for the cheaper land and more open space and less problems with crime, noise, and illegal immigration.

With the illegal immigrant part The president seems to have no problem with them do you know he is making all 12 million illegal immigrant legal. He will pass that law very very soon. SO if you have a problem with them like I do it will get worse my friend.

American citizens might not like the fact that the immigrant population has reached over 100,000,000. Oh oh, I`m sure soem are angry but hey, what can they do? I`m not pro illegal immigration but the fact is that even the politicans has realized that they can`t do nothing but legalize them. Again, the white will move futher thinking they can get away but not for too long. Sorry folks, I know you guys don`t like it but the fact is you have no choice but to deal with it like everyone else is.

I deplore President Bush's stance on this issue. He goes to Mexico and like begs like a dog in from of President Calderon to understand him. It is disgusting that our President is debasing himself in front of the leader of a Third World country like Mexico. Mexico is not a major country like the EU members, China, Japan, or Russia....they are the ones who are supposed to be sucking up to us and begging us for help.

TERRAPIN--
As a college student, I would think you would have more class and open-mindedness than to say those things, re: how "ghetto" PG is, etc. I lived in PG up until 4th grade, then moved to Montgomery County (Potomac to be exact), where I lived up until 3 years ago. While they are both VERY different areas of MD, I would never bash PG like that. I have friends that went to UMCP and used to say ignorant things about being "scared" to leave campus and that *****ed me off so bad. I still have family in PG and of course there are certain areas inside the beltway that are pretty bad, College Park and surrounding is not one of them. I don't know where in MoCO you grew up in, but my area was very ethnically diverse and it was a great thing. I would hope none of my former classmates would degrade a certain group of people or area because they think they are better than someone. I think I would rather live in a nice area of PG ANYDAY, over Hagerstown/Cumberland or some hillbilly place like that.

As a black person who has lived in PG County and is attending UMCP, here's my two cents on this issue:
The reason why I personally despise PG county is because of most of the black citizens' buy-in to anti-intellectualism/gangster life, as well as how they treat blacks who want success through legitimate means worse than criminals. When I attended high school in the county, I was one of the primary targets for social biasness. Those who were lacking in academical progress were esteemed by the general school population. Hell, at one point, I tried to address this issue to the school faculty. They saw it as me having some sort of social problem, and tried to literally expel me. Luckily, I was able to transfer to a less crappier school within the county. Whenever I walk in the street, I ALWAYS receive bigoted and threatening stares. This is something I rarely come across in some of the most whitest neighborhoods. As for the original poster, I say this: as long as the voices and actions of ignorant and deviant people out-shadow those of the intellectual and good-hearted citizens, I will always see PG County as the fascist, socialist, living he!! of Maryland.
As for Terrapin2212, I'd agree with RFMD that she's one of these run-of-the-mill asian girls who hate minorities (specifically blacks and Latinos) in order to get brownie points and assimilate to the "master race." Unfortunately, the atrociousness of her perspective is pretty common in UMCP (and all throughout Maryland), and are one of the reasons behind why I despise the school and the state so much!!!

WOW, Terrapin, you don't want anyone bashing PG county but you have no problem steroetyping Cumberland and Hagerstown as "hillbilly" places??? Sounds like you might do well to take a better look at yourself before getting "*****ed" at other people for the same crime.

No you're confused, I'm not the one calling Cumberland "hillbilly", I was the one who said PG County was ghetto. Someone else was quoting me. I said I'll take Cumberland and hagerstown over PGC anyday. Plus if you look at my profile I'm a big country music fan too.

And no I don't hate black people and I'm not a girl...peopel on this thread are so confused.
