Elkton, I believe is in Cecil. There are 3 superfund sites in Cecil. Move there unless leaking underground storage tanks don't bother you. http://www.epa.gov/reg3hwmd/super/md.htm I dont go on and on about the supers anymore because others on this board dont like it when I point them out. Read for yourself.

I think it is a crying shame the way you all jumped on this woman for being happy about where she was moving back to and just stating her opinion. I truly don't believe she meant anyone at all any harm. Leave this lady alone. This is america, she has free will to say what she wants, and again, she was just very happy and stating her opinion, not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings or step on anybody's toes. Geeezzz people, lighten up!

It's not like you were putting those people down, but that's how they seemed to have taken it. I myself live in Pittsburgh, PA and I for one cannot stand it here, and I said so on a post, and got my head ripped off also. My goodness. Anyway, I want to relocate to MD myself. My boyfriend lives there but I do not want to live where he lives, because the schools aren't too great. He lives in Mount Rainier. He suggested I check out Howard Co, and I have been investigating. It's so expensive, especially the Clarksville area. Would love for my children to go to River Hill High and Clarksville Middle. I also just love the beach, and wondered what's it like in Ocean City or anywhere near it. My boyfriend doesn't know because he has never been there. Can you tell me anything about that area? Like are the schools safe, the neighborhoods? Unfortunately I cannot buy as of yet, wouldn't want to anyway til I get to know the area better. I want to rent a 3 or 4 bedroom home. Any advice and/or suggetions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much and God bless you and yours.

ahh dont you just love the nit-picking , nasty , unhappy attitudes of marylanders.....You all can have the western shore and all its misery.
Been there done that.
Im with ya relotomd
beachlover the lower eastern shore is building up, but there are still alot of decent deals to be found. just stay outside the zone that surrounds OC.....there is lots of oppourtunity for work in OC and Salisbury and surrounding areas. Move on over and get out of the rat race.

Please elaborate on all these opportunities. I have yet to see them. This is the kind of stuff Im talking about. PPl on the shore talk like we have tons of high paying jobs and lots of cheap housing all with a low crime rate and no "rat-race". Ignorance is bliss isnt it?

property and housing on the lower shore is very affordable compared to central maryland, have to go to alleganey or garret county to match lower shore property and housing. I have many friends on the lower shore who have very good jobs and starting private business is a viable option as the markets down there arent oversaturated.
civil engineers , cpa's , medical jobs , RN's ......all you need to do is look....if construction jobs are what your after those can be had too at decent wages.
Its just a matter of doing research.
believe it or not there are alot of people that dont mind making a little less money to live in a place that is not yet considered in the rat race of the western shore. I had a high paying job in DC and Baltimore and have found plenty of work over here with comparable wages for the cost of living here. Heres some jobs from a 2 minute search
Eastern Shore Jobs (broken link)
delmarvanow.com - CareerBuilder - Jobs
SU [Human Resources]
Salisbury Jobs at Jobs.net : Jobs in Salisbury, Maryland and the surrounding area
This for Berlin
delmarvanow.com - CareerBuilder - Jobs
Ocean city
delmarvanow.com - CareerBuilder - Jobs
Is that enough for you?
Lets not forget realestate, my none exsistant low wage paying job allowed me to buy a farm 10 years ago that is now worth nearly 7 figures and I can go anywhere in this country I want....hows that for no oppourtunity?
Not to mention if you are down that way with a good attitude and friendly demeanor and you keep your eyes open and talk to people oppourtunities will arise.
If you think crime rates arent lower and the rat race is the same over here you are seriously mistaken. I looked over your other posts and seems to be a common theme. And yes I have lived all over this state for 40 years....from garret county to somerset and about 10 places in between. Ignorance must be bliss please tell me about it ......

Im glad that your farm is worth that much but fact is that isnt the norm(for the average newcomer to the shore). Your everyday average person comes here with a college degree and cant find work to support him/herself. Thats where opportunity and the lack of it effects us. I have friends that have degrees from SU (they were born/raised on the shore)and they cant find work in this area. That isnt opportunity.
Why cant ppl that live here realize the reality that this area isnt the greatest and that there is crime(which is high per capita, simple statistics) and that the real estate and job markets are off scale. Yes, you may be able to find a deal of a house for 100K in a great neighborhood and you might get that job that pays more than anyone in your neighborhood BUT THATS NOT THE NORM ON THE SHORE. The norm is high real estate prices and lower pay scale jobs, period. If you want to take a pay cut to come here and struggle to make ends meet you go ahead. Its an easier life when you dont live from paycheck to paycheck regardless of where you are.

I dont disagree there is less jobs here that the western shore...some folks value quality of life more than large paychecks....more and more oppourtunity is coming, the shore is building up and beginning to boom.
People here think the shore is great becuase of the state of the rest of the state. Some couldnt imagine living on the western shore. Quality of life and peace and quiet are important to some. Its a shame this state is deemed so buisness unfriendly or there would be more jobs here.
And High debt and paycheck to paycheck is an american norm these days it seems , especially on the east coast.
Im moving west, to a place way more rural than here. Some would say that there is less oppourtunity there but some, like me, see great oppourtunity in markets in a place thats much less crowded. Alot of it is perception and personal preferance. The shore is a great place you just have to find your niche. If material wealth is your aim maybe there are better places , maybe not....if your aim is a living and peace and quiet central maryland doesnt compete.
