Default Move to MD - Help with Info on Apt Complexes in Gaithersburg

Hello everyone, I will be moving to the D.C. area soon for work and I’m wondering if you could give your expert advice on the apartment complexes below and the general area they are in. I’ve looked at the aprartmentratings.com but didn’t answer the questions I’m looking for. I’ve looked at google maps and the neighbors seem fine, but would still like to hear from locals already in the area. The complexes highlighted in red I’m really interested in. Once I figure out where to live I will be coming to visit the area to see them for myself.

Information I’m looking for
Your experience with any of these complexes (YES, NO or PEASE STAY AWAY)
Relatively safe area. (this means different things to different people, so I’m speaking in general )
[How far is the Shady Grove Metro
Are these properties on the bus line (to take to metro)

Grove Park Apartments 750 Clopper Rd GaithersburgMD 20878
Jefferson at Orchard Pond 925 Clopper Rd Gaithersburg MD 20878
Oxford Square at White Flint 11902 Parklawn Pl Rockville MD 20852
Streamside Apartments 340 North Summit Ave Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Hunt Club 404 Christopher Ave Gaithersburg MD 20879
Governor Square 409 Muddy Branch Rd Gaithersburg MD 20878
The Verandahs 9308 Willow Creek Dr Gaithersburg MD 20886
Apartments at Miramont 6040 California Circle Rockville MD 20852
Walker House 18700 Walker Choice Rd Gaithersburg MD 20886
Brighton Village 345 West Side Dr Gaithersburg MD 20878
The Forest 2012 Baltimore Rd Rockville MD 20851

Thanks in advance for the information and all your help, I'm sure I will have more questions after finding the right apartment.

The first two is on a very busy road [espeically so at rush hour] - Clopper Rd / MD SR 117. Otherwise OK - I don't go to that specific area too often. Maybe.

Streamside Apts - NO! AVOID IT! Like the plague! This area is infested with shady people, illegals, criminals, and roaches. I was told from a friend who works for a pest company in the area, and this complex is a frequent customer. Also, I heard from a former resident stated the staff is mostly hispanic without English proficiencies.

Someone else recently asked about the same complex - Hunt Club on Christopher Ave. This area is by Lakeforest Mall. Kind of sketchy, but maybe...

I rarely go out to Muddy Branch, so nothing on this one. The rest are not familiar.

Honestly, I'd rather avoid the entire zip codes of 20877 and 20886.

Christopher Avenue is fine, though I can't speak to that specific complex. I lived off of Watkins Mill Rd. for a couple of years with no incidents at all.

I don'tv have any experience with any of these, but I would look into the ones on Clopper Rd. first. The ones on Muddy Branch and West Side Dr are pretty close to me, but I do not know how good they are to live in. Just noticed the properties in Rockville, again, I do not know them, but Rockville maqy be better than Gaithersburg. The rest I have no idea.

All are reasonablyt close to bus lines heading to Metro so no problem there.

Hello there! I am in the same boat as robinson30316. I need help with similar decisions so I decided to post on this thread as well. I have been disappointed in my search so far.
I will be working in Gaithersburg and I'm looking for SAFE areas (for a single female):
What do you guys think about these areas? Is there public transit available to commut to Gaithersburg for work? If not, how bad is the drive?

Silver Spring: MD 20902
Montgomery village: 20886 - near lake whetstone (lakeshore drive/dockside terrace location)
Near Little Seneca lake in Germantown

THANK YOU SOO MUCH for ANY info!!!

I haven't heard anything bad safety-wise about Brighton Village and have a couple friends are single female professionals who live there or used to live there . . . if it was sketchy I think they would have commented about it. I don't know anything about the other apartments listed in the quoted post.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

Filmsniffer, I did look up Clopper Road on Google Earth and it did appear to be a busy road from what I could tell from the site, which might not be a bad idea, I like this area a lot. Although I live within the city limits of Atlanta about 10 minutes from downtown and inside the perimeter (beltway for you guys) in a subdivision, the area is quite suburban, I guess that is one difference between the South and Mid-Atlantic region. I understand that Gaithersburg is quite a distance from downtown D.C. and for the area to be as dense as it appears is good for me. It doesn’t look anything like the suburbs in the south, and I mean that in a good way. It looks like it has a city vibe and not a suburban one.

I like the idea that the bus runs to the Metro, here I drive to the Marta and the parking is free I understand that isn’t the case with Metro parking true or false and I if I’m understanding correctly that I might want to avoid renting in the area around the Lake Forest Mall?

Again, thanks for the replies and if you think of anything I haven't keep the replies coming.

Gaithersburg is sort of a hybrid city/suburb. Probably more suburb than city though. Rockville, next door, is more city-ish. At least that's how I see it.

Definitely avoid living near Lakeforest, but don't be afraid to shop there, or to transfer bus routes at the transit center there. (at least not during the day.)

Clopper rd is not the busiest road, but it's busy. It's actually kind of nice ovoer there. There is a park and ride, a Marc train station and several bus routes there to Metro.

Correct. There is a parking charge if you park it at a Metro station.

Yes, you do want to avoid renting in the Lakeforest Mall area if you can. At nighttime, it gets pretty bad.

Hello All,

After reading the post and some additional investigation/research I think my best choices will be the apartments off Clopper Road and concentrate on that area and stay west of 270 as one poster recommended from another thread. I used the trip compare feature on Metro’s website and the trip from the apartment to the Shady Grove Metro is about 10 minutes which is great so I will not have to use the car.

Now that I have that figured out what is the deal with the Lake Forest Mall area, obviously from some of the responses I don’t want to be doing any shopping over there….at least during the day anyway. I did see a post on here about a year ago concerning gangs in the area so how bad is that, I’m not going to get bum rushed wearing the wrong color (whatever those colors may be) am I?

Again, thanks for the replies.
