My daughter is a high school teacher in MD. Here's a site that ranks MD schools by several factors including, student teacher ratio, subsidized lunch program and test scores. You may have already come across it. Good Luck.

I substitute taught-long term in Anne Arundel County. I have also taught down in the bad parts of Charlotte, NC. Having said this I really liked working in Anne Arundel County. Anne Arundel County is not full of slums, like one poster had posted. Are there skiddish areas, ya...Annapolis has bad areas, but it also has some VERY good areas that no one who is a teacher will ever touch today. Anne Arundel County south of Annapolis, west of Annapolis and for about 10 miles north of Annapolis is fine. No slums, no bad areas...none of it. Glen Burnie and Brooklyn Park have bad areas(they border Baltimore City). So if anyone is looking in Anne Arundel County and do not know the area, then just do not live in Glen Burnie, Severn or Brooklyn Park. I am not saying all of town is bad, it is just that they have bad areas within those towns...and if you do not know the area stay away. As far as Annapolis if you can afford it on a school teachers salary you do not want to live there. Severna Park and DAvidsonville are pretty expensive areas. Anyhow best of luck to you. I was once like many of you and moved to MD not knowing anything about the area, it can be scary, especially reading some of these posts, people contradict themselves. Remember someone may say Anne Arundel County has slums...but will leave out that Mont County has slums that are 100 times worse??!!!
