questions about Quince Orchard Knolls & Manor nieghborhoods in Gaithersburg
Does anybody have info on these subdivisions, which were built in the 1970's and 80's?
Are they still nice? Who is moving in? young Families? Ethnic diversity? Educated crowd? WCD commuters? Kentlands wannabes? Safe?
Also, they don't seem to have community pools. Is there a nearby area that allows outsider residents to join their pool??? Thinking of buying in one of those areas for the Quince Orchard schools..

I can't speak on that neighborhood specifically, but here's what I found in terms of HOA websites:
Quince Orchard Knolls Citizens Association - North Potomac, MD
Orchard Knolls Home Owners Association
Most of that area is fairly nice, with a good mix of people and is fairly safe and quiet.
One development near here worth checking out would be Dufief, an older neighborhood off Route 28, I have former co-worker who has nothing but good things to say about the place. Washingtonian Woods, is another place to consider. Although, the high school for this area might be Wooten instead of Quince Orchard.

I don't know about the particular neighborhoods the OP is inquiring about, although the general area is absolutely fine. As far as schools go, Wootton High ranks much, much higher than Quince Orchard. It's one of those schools that consistently rank in the top 100 nationwide list. Any neighborhood feeding into such a well ranked high school will be much pricier.

I used to rent a home nearby this area (stonebridge view) and I work close by as well.
The whole area around north potomac is very nice and quiet. People are nice. This area is gaining some Asian character. Mostly establish families or people that bought homes here many years ago, quite a few foreign investors renting out homes. Very safe, fast access to 270.
It's my impression that houses in Dufief and north are a little older than the ones to the south near Stone Bridge view area.
pools:
People that live here are pretty well off. They dont do community pools. There is Orchard's Swimming Pool nearby which is public, however, theres probably quite a few people that pay dues for the local country club such as the the darnestown country club:

i grew up living on McDonald Chapel Dr. which is near the intersection of QO rd and darnestown. I know where QO knolls is but i can't specifically remember which neighborhood of houses even when I look on the google maps. but i do know for sure that the neighborhood is nice because it is right down the street from where i lived and im sure i had friends living there. most people go to the pool off of QO rd and you do have to pay. They also have nice tennis courts there but if you dont want to pay use the QOHS courts, they are the best. my dad plays tennis regularly and everyone all the way from northwest HS area to Wooton come to QOHS to use their courts.
Whoever wrote above that the schools are bad are crazy. First, they are in Mont. county which is a nationally ranked school district. I went to QO and it is an extremely nice school with a TON of AP courses for students to choose from and great sports teams. I did volleyball, marching band, and step team. Wooton is also a great school, but the houses will be older and more expensive. They have higher scores but in my opinion it is because the school is about 40% asian which had hard parents with impossible standards (literally have kids retake SATs to get perfect score instead of 50 pts from perfect). Their sports and extracurriculars are not as good. They have no marching band and their band kind of sucks in general. They are not known for football or basically any sport at all. I think QO is much more well rounded. My mom teaches at Dufief elementary school, this is a GREAT school!
If you buy in Knolls or Dufief area both neighborhoods will be great and both have good schools. The only difference i can think of is more diversity of courses/activities at QO (in addition to high standards of grades) therefore i think it is better. And im not just saying that because i went here. I only lived there for 4yrs of highschool so im not really that attached to this area vs. wooton area.

I forgot to add, as far as kentlands "wannabes" living there. I don't think you will find that. My parents specifically bought our house off QO rd because it was the right size for our family AND because we had a yard!!! that is not possible to find in kentlands. I think you will find most of the familys in knolls love it there because they like the outdoor setting with yards a lot better than a compacted mini city in kentlands.
Now, I don't know how old you are, but i think this is good advice. my parents bought in this area and their house doubled in price. After i went to college they sold our house because it was too big for them and are now living in a kentlands townhouse where they want to stay until they retire. I think this is the perfect idea because like them, i want a yard for my kids to have when they grow up. but when i get older and its just my husband and I, i would love to live in kentlands and not worry about tending to my yard/garden, taking walks along the lakes, and walking to restaurants nearby.
