Default Does anyone here live (or know someone who lives) in Russett Community (Laurel)?

I moved out of there in 2005, and I must say that the community kept growing and growing until there was no more space to build. However, I lived in a section that was completed in 2000, and it was very nice. Our house backed onto the woods at the end of a cul-de-sac.

HOWEVER ... I would love to hear from anyone who is familiar with the community or Laurel in general. The reason I ask has to do with what appears to be a serious zoning problem. Just before exiting Russett onto Route 198, there is a HUGE Walmart on the left side of the road and a McDonald's on the right. Traffic coming into Russett that plans to go into the McDonald's must almost make a blind left turn into the restaurant.

I cannot fathom why a huge Walmart, that causes traffic backups at the light at Russett Green and Route 198, was not built on the other side of the road in the strip center.

Also ... since 2005, has the community continued to thrive or is it going downhill? I'm planning to go back to the area, and I know there are areas of Laurel I would avoid, just as I did back in '05.

Anybody here familiar with the Russett community who could give me updated info?

Default Russett/Laurel

I live in Laurel (on 197) and have relatives who live in Russett. Russett is nice, but has little pockets of crime like every place else in Laurel. Russett is nicer and safer than most. I'm in the process of searching for a home elsewhere, but only because I want a change of pace...otherwise I'd consider Russett.

I moved to Laurel (from New York) in the 90s. The neighborhood was thriving and booming with businesses back then. Now it's just the opposite. Laurel Mall is a total ghost town. Businesses have left the mall in droves. There's still a lot of nice restaurants and eateries in the area, but the rest of the place has gone down hill...

Having said that, there's some new construction/homes up near the mall (again with pockets of crime, but maybe the new construction will turn things around).

Not certain if that's a plus for you or not. Also not certain why Walmart isn't located on the other side of the strip Mall. I guess poor planning.

Hope this helps.
