Considering Shady Side, Maryland
Does anyone live in Shady Side Maryland?
My husband, child, dog and I are moving to MD. We are considering Shady Side, MD for a home. We are all originally from NYC, moved to Boston and now MD. Husband's Job is in Upper Marlboro. I am a artist.
We are renting first, then buying. The elementary school seems good.
Any info or advice is appreciated. Can't find any good websites on the area.
Thanks!

"Shady Side".....is this another knock on PG Cty again? Seems appropriate.
If Jack Johnson has his druthers, he'd rename it "Sunny Side" just like he renamed PG Cty in to "Gorgeous Prince Georges."

I am sorry, I don't know what that means. A friend of a family member lived in Shady Side a while ago. Seemed like it has a good school and a wee bit more affordable in some rents. I was also looking at Deale, MD.
Does PG have areas and schools you would recommend?

We looked at Shady Side but as we were commuting from DC we ended up in Chesapeake Beach instead since it was 'easier' to get in and out (not necessarily shorter, just bigger roads, commuter buses, etc). Schools are good around there and in Northern Calvert county as well. Are you looking specifically for on the water or just for a small town with a maritime feel?

Shady Side is a Chesapeake Bay community in southern Anne Arundel County. Lots of families who have been there for 300 years with an influx of newcomers. A mix of older craftsman style beach cottages with new construction. See also, Edgewater, Galesville, Deale, Owings Beach, Rosehaven and Fairhaven in Anne Arundel, North and Chesapeake Beach in Calvert.

Thank you all for the information. I will check into the other cities. Upper Marlboro is in that area, where I could check Calvert of maybe some parts of Annapolis.
Chesapeake Beach, I will check into - thanks....
Any other info is greatly appreciated -

I am wondering if anyone can comment on the following. I took a day trip to N. Beach, Chesapeake Beach, and Fairhaven a few Sundays ago. Motorcycles roared by nonstop all day from the time I arrived to the time I left. It was not a special event, by the looks of it. Does anyone live around there and notice lots of motorcycle noise?Saw tons of "For Sale" signs of what looked like former beach cottages.

The area I would recommend to you would be the South River area....probably best schools within the radius of Upper Marlboro, but in Anne Arundel Cty.

It is though, the suburban life.

Southern Maryland is filled with motorcycles, who really enjoy getting away from the Beltway and commuter traffic of the city and rolling out on smaller country roads. Chesapeake Beach / North Beach is a frequent stop for them to refuel, both their bikes and the riders. Actually, most towns in Calvert / St. Marys have places that attract bikers.
