I have friends who live in a large development called Spring Ridge, just outside Frederick, and they both love it. It has condos, townhomes, and single families in different areas. Just a few minutes from downtown, too.

Spring Ridge is VERY nice. Also, check out New Market (further away from Frederick) but it's beautiful. It reminds me of a resort town up in the mountains. Has a beautiful lake.. gorgeous!

Also, you could check out Myersville if you want a small town...

Urbana is also an option.. it's a very nice developed little town.

I would stay away from anything near 40

Where are you coming from in Ca. I was born and raised in So. Cal. Have lived in No. Cal too. I moved to the area 5 years ago. Tell me what type of environment you had in Ca. (and if you liked it) and I can suggest comparable environments in MD. Overall I have loved the moved and pretty much feel like I never want to go back to Ca... ever!
