Rockville Restaurant Recommendations
I'll be in Rockville two nights next month for a conference. Any restaurant recommendations? (no chains, prefer local favorites, American and most any ethnic foods).

Ambrosia

I personally recommend Ambrosia, it has the BEST greek food. the inside is nice (there are hand painted murals on the walls) but if you are going with fancy business people who also attend the conference im not sure if this is the right scenery unless they are open minded (maybe check it out first). I used to live in rockville and now that I live in gaithersburg whenever i want food from rockville i always get ambrosia. I would recommend getting the Ambrosia special because it has everything but you will definitely need a doggy bag because it is big. The stuffed grape leaves are amazing and so are the gyros and baclava!! The prices are normal and the food is authentic.

I found this site above, it has some pictures so you can see what I mean about how fancy it is. Basic tables and chairs with paintings on the walls.
Now the address given may be wrong from what I am viewing on google maps but if you print out the map for 12015 Rockville Pke, Rockville, MD it is easy to find. It is at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Randolf (Montrose turns into Randolf as you cross rockville pike) It is by the Old Navy/Giant shopping center but basically right behind randolf road (across the parking lot of Giant). The strip of places it is on has a beer/wine store and one end and a chinese restaurant at the other end.

Sounds yummy! Thanks!
I won't know a soul at this conference, and most (perhaps everyone else) will not be staying the second night, so I'll likely be on my own, and I can do what I want.
More suggestions welcome.. who knows what I'll be craving when the time comes....

Rockville is actually DC's version of a Chinatown. Joe's Noodle House is great for Szechuan (their noodles are actually not their strong suit), A&J is good for Northern Chinese small dishes, and Bob's Noodle 66 has excellent Taiwanese. I'm not sure if they have websites, but searching www.yelp.com in the Rockville area should lead you to some decent reviews.
Rockville also has a lot of decent Indian and Thai places, but as a Virginian, the only cuisine that will convince me to drive to Rockville is the Chinese.

Are you staying on Rockville Pike or are you actually closer to Gaithersburg?

I'll be at the Marriott Bethesda North, (which now I see is actually in Bethesda-- somebody was telling me Rockville, and it came up on a Rockville search, so it's close) and looks like it's just off the pike.

Rockville Pike is one LONG "Boulevard" (of sorts) with resturant after resturant one after another.
Did you have a particular cuisine in mind?

Here is a GREAT site for bethesda food. Most places have ratings/reviews by others.
Restaurants & Dining in Downtown Bethesda, Md
Mongolian BBQ is good its basically a huge buffet of meat and veges and sauces and they will stirfry it all in front of you.
Javan (persian) is also amazingggg. I'm half persian and it is the only restaurant i will go to if I want authentic persian food.

It doesn't matter, I like all the Oriental cuisines, the Greek sounded good, Italian, and American food. I'm just looking for a non-chain place with food I might not find just anywhere. I've only got two nights to work with, so I need to winnow down that "one restaurant after another" to a smaller list to pick from.
The Persian restaurant sounded good. Good lamb, I bet?
