Rural and conservative. Honestly not my cup of tea. I'm used the more urban and liberal counties in MD like Montgomery and Prince George's.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Route 50/301. 4.2 miles of PITA, especially in the summer. Connects the Eastern Shore with the Western. Overcrowded access road on the western side.

GOTCHA......so its basically the only route for commuters from the eastern shore to DC and annapolis?? We won't be doing that so not too big of worry, at least on a frequent basis. Thanks for the info

Yes if you are not commuting or need to go over at busy times on the weekends then you will be fine. Most people from QAC cross the bridge for work, shopping, etc. On weekends 10 mile backups are not uncommon. If you are looking for rural I would look around Centreville and northward or the eastern side of Talbot County both are very rural. Most of the Eastern Shore leans conservative but not really to the point that you should worry about it.

I can handle leaning conservative as long as its not shoved down my throat.

Are there things like decent grocery stores etc in QAC or Talbot or do you need to cross even for simple things?

I don't think the area is highly political. However there are a lot of retired politicians in the area, most notable current ones probably being Cheney and Rumsfeld in St. Michaels. But generally speaking I think Republicans usually win for national and state elections but here in Easton I think the county council is split and the Easton council is mainly (if not all) Democrats.

There are a handful of grocery stores on Kent Island with Safeway being the newest and biggest, Centreville has a Food Lion and Acme. Easton has 4 or 5 plus WalMart and Target. Depending on how far north in QAC you go you start getting closer to Chestertown which I know used to have a SuperFresh. Unless you are looking for something like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, you can find what you want without crossing the bridge.

Chestertown and Easton also would be the closest hospitals if that is of a concern.

Here are a bunch of local videos I came across if you are interested.
