Welcome to Queen Anne's
Talbot County Government - Welcome
The Shore as a whole tends to be rural and conservative, Democrat and Republican alike.
Cost of living in MD as a whole is high, the Shore a bit less so. Two acres for $200K would maybe be more in the ballpark. The four acres can be done around Pocomoke City in Worcester County if you look very hard and would settle for an older, smaller house.
Talbot County has the reputation of being a millionaire's county, both it and Queen Anne's are experiencing some growth from commuters moving from the Western Shore and braving the Bay Bridge and longer commute.

Caroline is one of the poorer Counties (not the poorest, that would be Somerset) on the Shore. It's also the only one that's landlocked (no waterfront except along a couple rivers).
I don't know about Baltimore commuters, they are probably more centered in the Upper Shore and DE (Kent, Cecil and Harford). Most of the commuters in the mid-Shore are going to Annapolis or DC.

Cost of living in MD as a whole is relatively high. Caroline looks to have lower land costs. Be aware Caroline's major industry is poultry raising and other forms of agriculture.

Thanks, I know cost of living anywhere is all relative. The agriculture is ok we wont necessarily be looking for jobs in the county.

You can say that now, but wait until the chicken manure gets spread on the ground withing a few miles of your house!

Properties in QAC have come down in price recently. But once you start getting north of Centreville it can get very rural. When I moved back to the Eastern Shore I decided to live closer to Easton, I currently work on the western shore and really didn't want to have to deal with the bridge on weekends. Living close to Easton gives a little more access to stores, restaurants, etc. than in QAC. The prices in Talbot Co. haven't seemed to drop as much as they have in QAC, not as many foreclosures either. You might find a house in Talbot Co. for $200 with an acre or two but it would probably be a small house. Caroline Co. would probably be a better bet but I would look into it carefully. There has been a lot of new development around Denton and at some point the cost of development will probably trickle down through taxes, if it hasn't already. That's another thing to consider, Talbot Co. has one of the lowest property tax rates in the area.

Thanks Mike,
I am not really familiar with the area....Several people have mentioned the bridge? What do you need to cross the bridge for? We really want to be as rural as possible so QAC sounds good. A small home is fine, we live a simple life. Thanks
