Interviewing for jobs in Bethesda
I've been interviewing for a job in Bethesda. I've been trying to research apartments in the area. The job i've been interviewing for pays around $36K-$40K. i'm pretty sure my public transportation costs would be covered and the job is right near the redline. I'm in my 20's and am looking for a 1br/1ba apartment. i have a 10lb dog which seems to severely reduce my hosing options. i don't want a "luxury" apartment. i just want something clean, decent, and well run. i don't mind commuting using the metro 30-45 minutes to work. i do have a car, but it's 9 years old and i'd prefer to drive it as little as possible. so i'd need an option for parking.
i'm trying to get as much information as i can, since if there isn't any affordable housing options in my income range, i'd never be able to accept the job if i'm offered it. it's an amazing opportunity, and i would love to find a way to make it work. i'd like to stay in maryland because i am planning on going to grad school part time in 2-3 years and it doesn't seem like northern VA has school options that are convenient to working in Besthesda.
i'd appreciate any suggestions. i'm just trying to get some sort of feel for housing options that don't cost $2500 a month. i'm not even sure if i'll be offered the position, but i like to do my research ahead of time to be well prepared.

Silver Springs and Tacoma Park seem a little pricey for what you get because of the area's "revitalization". it also seems like only certain parts of silver springs are ok.
can anyone give me any specifics? What's the farthest away (and hopefully cheapest) i could live and still be able to take public transportation to work (preferably 30-45 minute commute, but willing to go to an 1hr 15min).
Are areas in Virginia (arlington, etc) significantly cheaper to live? with good public transportation access to Bethesda?
i figure my budget would have to stretch to allow $1,000 for rent. but i have seen some apartments around that include utilities for $1300-$1600 and i'd have to get an offer and really plan out a budget to see if i could swing that option.
anyone able to give me any kind of specific information (maybe specific neighborhoods, apartment complexes, etc.).
p.s. the job would be right off the red line.

Silver Spring, Wheaton, and Takoma Park are the cheapest places to live in Mont. Co. because the area isn't as safe as places like Potomac and Bethesda. But its not all bad. People try to make it seem like Silver Spring is the Bronx for some reason. Its actually not a bad place to live.

I would recomment either the Enclave (White Oak) or Chateau (Takoma Park) in Silver Spring on your salary.
Always check out Craigslist.com as well
Once you can afford it, try to get into Bethesda, I've lived at Bethesda Hills off of Pooks Hill and Rockville Pike and loved it there

Fireside Park Apts 735 Monroe Street Rockville, MD 20850
Let me start by saying that these apartments do not get the best ratings however they are located a little ways from the Red line Rockville Metro stop (may have to take a bus to get to the station), have ample parking, 600 sq feet 1bdr for about 1K, and they accept large pets.
I had a former co-worker that lived in this complex with her boyfriend and they had two HUGE dogs and they liked the fact that there was alot of green space and a park nearby to walk the dogs.
Check out Montgomery County's apartment rental guide--you can search by city and get an idea of the prices and then Google the addresses to see where they are in relation to the metro and your potential job.
