Last time I heard anything about Fredneck was when the lab scientist or doctor murderd his wife this was awhile back.

how long were you there exactly?

T'BERG expressed the following:
"I thought Frederick County, MD was rural because on I-270 west of DC in Montgomery they have the 'rural preserve' therefore if rural country starts in Montgomery County it makes sense it would get more rural the further out you head.
I thought MD was ahead of the curve in this field? What do you mean old time MD?"
.................................................. .................................................. .......................
(On topic: Ferderick like MoCo and counties further out r seeing or have seen major develpment/growth.)
Re: ? by T/berg
On a clear day u can see forever...farmers who r ready to retire or investorsrs selling land to developers, = subdivisions. What follows:The Outlet Center, shops, ammenidies, strip malls. From a car window it is clear. Development is everywhere.
While driving, Look out the window. Northern 70 to 81 from MoCo, to Fred, to WashCo & to Franklin Co Pa. GROWTH: gradual but OBVIOUS stream of building. Easy to see from the road. Human nature: move out to cheaper housing while still being able to commute to existing job.
Like some have said, still some GREAT areas in Western Md. & PA. But growth is everywhere that is commutable to the job corridor. High paying or tech jobs r in DC, MoCo, Balt, & NOVA. ( Some jobs r ^ in Martinsburg WVa.) Sadly, not so much up here. But that keeps things at bay, a trade off.

I've heard people call it Fredneck and folks here use words like 'white trash', 'trailer park trash', 'red neck' 'hick' and all that much too freely.
One poster said whites try to act black, but I have yet to see that. Its looks like some of the white population here live a rough life. I have also seen the 'hood' in frederick...not too pretty.
I work here, but don't think I'd ever live. Although Ballenger Creek seems to have a little more flair and is a tad bit more upbeat.
In the words of one of my co-workers 'I would not be caught after dark in Hagerstown or Frederick'.

thats sad . But at my schosol, yes, there are about 10 wiggers (my school only has 500). Also, Yes, for some wierd reason we are trailertrash rennecks or hicks from Fredneck, even though i hardly EVER see anyone like that. people who say things like that are very ignorant, because most of Frederick is not like that.
i go to downtown at night all the time. There are lots of people downtown

whether it's true or not, "Fredneck" is the reputation that Marylanders from other places know. I too haven't seen Frederick in 5-10 yrs. and am shocked at what I'm reading!
tberg...Maryland was supposed to be all about smart growth...more like "incredibly excessive" growth in my corner of HoCo (Elkridge) than "smart" growth. Not sure if this is happening elsewhere too in MD.

My two cents worth
Love the old architecture, downtown restaurants, and the countryside. Nearby Catoctin is a beautiful forest area.
Overall impression...wouldn't want to live there. Too expensive, too much traffic, and too overbuilt/overrun with development. The newer shopping and housing looks like it could be anywhere leaving no distinction between Frederick and any other sprawling burb area...no character or charm at all.

I have only visited Frederick. I could never live there, it seems like it takes forever to get there from DC!

I would say Frederick has developed alot in recent years, but the location is just far from DC and Baltimore.

I have live here my entire life. Boy has Frederick changed. I wish we were still at the days were we were in the middle of nowhere. There has been soo much growth it's a little too much too fast. The schools are over crowded the roads are over crowded and so are the stores. Frederick has turned in to a total nightmare. I can't wait to leave. What a shame I grew up on the same street I live on and my mother's house has been in our family for four generations. Crime is started to go up. I live what would be called rural and my mail box has been stolen and then my car window broken out. The police say once I catch the person they can help me. I have given my husband 4 more years here and then I said I'm leaving.. Can't wait

Based on the responses from you, I would say that Frederick isn't such a great place to live, and not because of the people who are moving there and because of the people that you just referred to in a ignorant and intolerant manner. And I would say that you're also pretty closed-minded too... and it's sad...
