Default what do you think of Frederick, MD

What are your impressions of Frederick? I live here and I want to know what people think about it. Do you like or dislike it and why?

Thruway is on a distinguished road
I thought Frederick County, MD was rural because on I-270 west of DC in Montgomery they have the 'rural preserve' therefore if rural country starts in Montgomery County it makes sense it would get more rural the further out you head.

The rural preserve has had the exact opposite affect. Since the developers can't build in NW Montgomery County, they have just followed I-270 up into Frederick County and started building there. Urbana in Frederick County is an example of a "pop" community. 5 years ago their was nothing, now there are over 1,000 condos and townhouses. This sprawl is interupted briefly by Monocacy National Battlefield, then resumes as you head into Frederick.

In Frederick County most of the development is located near the major roads, I-70, I-270, US 340, US 15. Once you are off of these roads the county is mostly agricultural with the occasional small town or McMansion development. This is especially true north of Walkersville as you head up towards Thurmont, Emmittsburg, and eventually PA. These communities are still very much the old MD that is occasionally referenced on these discussion boards.

Its gonna blow up because DC is becoming unaffordable as a whole and it seems the best deals are out in the boonies.

If only Frederick would stop having whites trying to be black it would be awesome. It has a wonderful park Baker Park, i will be there for the 4th as I was last year and seen Jamie O'Neal sing. Its ok to have those lil ghetto sections for any municipality but the Wiggers need to stop.

Why doesn't Frederick County, or is it going to, do similar with laws to prevent sprawl?
I thought MD was ahead of the curve in this field?
What do you mean old time MD?

little cat feet is on a distinguished road
I just moved to downtown Frederick about a month ago from New Jersey. My husband and I have a slight commuting issue (and by "slight", I mean "total nightmare of a") and the location allows us to, you know, live together after spending our days working in Baltimore and Leesburg, VA.

I obviously don't have much experience, but I am enjoying renting in downtown so far. We will probably rent for a few more years before buying a house, and by that point, we will likely relocate due to our career paths. I am a city woman at heart, so Frederick is a nice compromise for me.

Um, I haven't set foot in that area in like ten years, but from what I remember it was a hick filled dump! I hated Fredneck. It had a horrible reputation when I lived in Moco and in most other areas of the state. I'm not sure how it is now, but it was like little West Virginia in Maryland, not just because of the proximity, but it really sucked. Last time I heard anything about Fredneck was when the lab scientist or doctor murderd his wife this was awhile back.

oh

You should see the changes though! MUCH has changed. We got this kind of "river walk" in Downtown and near that, downtown a new 6 story building, And also new, there is a lot more sprawl like everone has been saying. and did you actually go Downtown when you set foot there? That is like little Germany, not even close to little west virginia
