Question best place between North Bethesda and Baltimore

My DH might have a job opportunity in Baltimore but we aren't crazy about the area. We used to live in North Arlington and loved it. We are in Miami now and trying desperately to get back north. My son is still young but I would love for him to go to Georgetown Prep one day. Is there a nice family friendly place with small town charm somewhere between these two places?

If not between…then what is the best choice within reasonable commute to Baltimore with regard to “great” schools and family friendly, safe areas? Are there any schools that have programs for “highly gifted (150)” children?

Thank you in advance

Clarksville has the best public schools in terms of "test scores" and is very family friendly. It takes 30 minutes to drive to Baltimore. Compared with Miami, anything between Balto & N. Bethesda should be better!

Duirng Montgomery County's adequate public facility review public
forum which I was at this fall, it was stated that the public schools
in Clarksville Maryland public are currently over crowded given the
current looser standards. If you have children and you plan to
enroll them into public schools you might want to visit that school.
Montgomery County Public School system has a very good reputation
but each school is unique.

Are you looking for a private school?
What do you mean by a program for highly gifted children?
You need to be more specific, e.g. AP courses, Lanugage immersion,
arts and music, science & math, etc.

.

A full time GT program which specializes in children with IQs over 130. This is refered to "highly gifted".

Definitely would not live in Clarksville, I like Columbia or Annapolis, MD better.

Have you looked in Baltimore County (not the city)? There are lots of family friendly places there with good schools.

Howard County would be my next thought.

Columbia not. Clarksville or Ellicott City yes in Howard County. I recommend Glenelg Country School in western Howard County. Could live south or west of there and be close to both DC and school.

What age and gender is the child or the children?

Assuming the IQ test were performed recently,
has there been any detailed assessment?
That is does the child have any particular talents?

e.g. foriegn language skills,
the visual arts( painting, drawing, photography)
the performing arts(piano, ballet, singing),
physical sports,
proficiency in high level mathematics like calculus,
proficiency in technical skills like computer programming,
proficiency in the literary arts

Or do you believe that a more for an educational exploratory
environment for gifted children is appropiate?
