You are very welcome, RoadTripGurl. Actually, my brother moved to SA area a few years ago and, even though I laughed about it at the time, it has really been the best move ever for him and his family. Gotta tell you, I was considering parts of VA and even NC for lower cost of living/better quality of life, but San Antonio has seriously moved to the top of my list. Good luck!

We left MD (PG)because of the neverending development, crowded roads, polluted air etc. Don't regret it one bit, except I miss my friends! My husband had really bad asthma while we lived in MD and now that we live in Central MA, it has almost cleared up completely within a 2 month period. Glad I won't be around for yet more building and "road expansion".

That is so weird because we moved north to NY from MD and my entire family has been constantly sick with allergies yet they didn't bother us in MD. It must be different vegetation or something since I know count-wise MD is always worse than up here.

Here are some quick numbers on BRAC for Harford County:

BRAC Job Impact Within 6 years

• 6,176 On-post (net new)
• 3,000 direct contractor support on post
• 12,352 Ancillary contractors (conservative 2:1 ratio)
• 21,528 Net new jobs in Harford County/Region by 2011
• Rapid employment and population growth in relatively short
period of time
• An increase of 21,528 jobs conservatively converts to 58,557
people (using avg. household size of 2.72)

http://www.marylandready.com/downloads/BRAC-PresentationNovember7th.pdf (broken link)

Note that I've seen other numbers that indicate some on-post jobs will be lost due to BRAC bringing the net on-post new jobs more into the 2000-3000 range.

To Bande

Well... TX is still at top of list. I'm still young (almost 30) so i want to move to the way outer suburbs of California. I can have my cake and eat too, but its' more expensive. I guess TX and CA are about tied at the top of my list. But those are definites. I am looking into that NSA thing from that website, but I could always do other agencies. I just spoke with my old boss who relo from NJ to Houston suburbs (Pearland) 2005, and she said it is very beautiful, good for the kids, and she loves it! Of course, she got a red brick McMansion built so i would love it too... As for TX Houston and San Antonio I am researching now. Getting house together and doing upgrades to sell next year.

And will the teachers from out of state come to teach the children of BRAC employees? We already have a shortage. If schools, schools, school drive location.location. Where will these folks be driven to live and will we have the teachers for them.
