We lived in Columbia for 10 years and loved it but the commute to Springfield was killing my husband. When he found out his commute would be shifting to Reston and Chantilly, we made the decision to move. That was 12 years ago. My boys were 9 and 11 and we moved to Ashburn, VA which we also love, but there are things about Columbia I really miss too. You can't beat the Columbia Association amenities and the access to Annapolis, the beach and Baltimore as well as a lot of friends we only see occasionally now. It's a little more expensive to live here in terms of housing cost, but the cost of commuting will be less. And state taxes are lower here. My husband and I currently work in Chantilly so it was a good move for us. I wasn't really working in Columbia, just an occasional part time job while the kids were in school and I didn't go right to work here either.

My father takes the train... there is one by the Home Depot, and another off of Route 100.

If you like Howard County that much, go for it. Columbia charges a CPRA tax...so to avoid that and still enjoy the amenities, buy in Ellicott City.

My website is www.ChristinaYoon.com....you (broken link) don't have to sign on or give personal info....but when the time comes to use a realtor, please let me know. I am an agent for Remax...used to live in Ellicott City, loved it there...
