We are a military family with 2 small children (too young for school) relocating to the Fort Meade area this fall. We have heard mixed reviews about the area and would really like some advice on where exactly are the "best" places to live. Living on base is an option, but we want to search around the area before deciding. What are the nice towns, or nice neighborhoods within 10 miles of Fort Meade? Thanks for your help!

I would look in the Piney Orchard area (if you can afford it). Very nice communities there. Piney Orchard is a road, in Odenton. There are a number of other areas, but at a distance, and the commute there is getting bad.

I know several people who work at the Ft. Meade area who had focused their search around Odenton (Anne Arundel Co), Columbia/Fulton/Elkridge/Hanover (Howard County) and Hanover (Anne Arundel Co) so they could stay in proximity of Ft. Meade.

my fiancee retired from the army and got a government job here in Laurel, MD. We moved here from beautiful Denver,CO last March this year. It was a mix feeling when we decided to take the job but we go where the money is 8-). We don't have anybody we know here in MD , just the two us. it's kind of hard.Right now we are living in Laurel, MD and rent a very nice apartment not too far from his work. It's about hm..maybe 8 miles from fort meade?? if you like history, Laurel is the right place to live. We go to Fort Meade a lot and it seems like a nice area to live. My fiancee go golfing there on weekend. You might want to check out Columbia city also, it looks nicer and newer city. It's always mixed review and mixed feeling when we move to somewhere new. I wish you luck.
