Default Curious about apartments in Columbia, MD (particularly kings contrivance)

I'm a single, childless male in my late 20's.

I may move in the future to an apt in columbia though I live close now. Anyway it's pretty (d**n) hard finding apts with decent ratings on apt ratings.com.

I've found some places to look into.
I'd like to stay within $800/mo each person for a 2 BR.

living near Lake Elkhorn in Owen Brown would be cool as well.

I'm not really picky judging by the fact that I lived in a place with abysmal ratings on apt ratings and enjoyed it. I lived there while in college about 8 mos during '02-'03 in Beltsville (technically, Calverton).

some apts I have found:

1. Dominion at Eden Brook Apartments by the Kings Contrivance Village Center
Dominion at Eden Brook Apartment Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Columbia apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com
poorly rated but hoping it's not that bad

2. not in OB or KC:
Southgate Crossing Apartment Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Columbia apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com

any recommendations?

-Avalon Fairway Hills, Columbia, Symphony Woods
-Town Center or Grammercy ( I believe when we looked Grammercy was pricey)
-Mount Joy - Ellicott City, not Columbia, but not too far away.

Not positive about the prices.

can't recommend kings contrivance apts, early april way, near corner of giulford and broken land, where i live, because of vandalism issues caused by outsiders who use the complex as a short cut to get to distressed area on other side of field behind the complex(under electric tower transmission lines)---management does nothing to ameliorate the problem other than posting "no trespass" signs with no enforcement---

When you say $800 each person, 2 bedroom, does that mean you will have a roommate so 1600 total? B/c that's very doable, just want to make sure though b/c when I first read it I thought you meant $800 total for a 2-bed.

I say check out Reflections in Columbia. It's a nice complex, only problem I had with it was it was a little too far away from everything for me. I don't like having to drive more than 10 minutes to get somewhere (which is my problem in general with Columbia).

My daughter has lived in Beech's Farm complex directly across from KC shopping center for about 4 years and has been very happy with it. They have been doing some major refurbs at BF and several other complexes in the immediate area. Her lease renewal rate for a 2/2 is $1,330/month plus water & sewer of about $25. Those numbers are for the entire apartment, she doesn't have a roommate.

She said a new lease would be a bit higher. Electric runs anywhere from $80 in the fall/spring to several hundred bucks a month in the high heating & AC months. I've asked her to compute an annual monthly average electric cost which I'll post shortly. She has also had friends who lived in Dominion just down the street and were happy with it. Hope that helps.
