Default Maryland residents victimized yet again- cell phone ban

Md. lawmakers ban hand-held phones while driving - BusinessWeek

Thank God we have the MD state legislature! Otherwise people might actually have to think for themselves. Even though these clowns only meet three months out of the year, they're pretty efficient at taking away as many rights as possible during that time and lowering the quality of life as much as they can in this state.

Seriously, why do people even tolerate this kind of nanny state BS? I wonder how much these guys are getting paid by the hands-free device companies.

I'm for it personally. Can't even count how many times I've almost been rear-ended or otherwise involved in a serious accident because someone was swerving all over the road, cell phone held firmly to their ear.

My sympathies are with those who are victimized by drivers on phones.
I've now lived in two states with cell phone bans; it helped me to break a bad habit and I'm safer for it.

One time while driving in Maryland close to the Beltway, I passed a driver who had a cigarette in the left hand and a cell phone in the right hand, and was somehow driving a stick shift car. Fortunately, this person was driving slowly.

That person may smash into you one day. Or maybe this law you disdain will actually protect you without you even knowing.

Think twice before complaining.

I assume you're a Libertarian or "Tea Party" member. I'm curious to know if I'm right.

Thank goodness. I am sick of nearly being run over by nitwits who drive while using their cell phones!

it's unnecessary. I hope your child calls you in an emergency when you forgot your bluetooth at home and you have to talk on the phone stuck in the red light with a police officer right beside you. Then you will think twice to agree to such a mandatory ban.
I drive and talk on the phone often for work purposes. People who agree with these types of bans are bad drivers and people who do not need to multi-task in a daily basis so they actually have time in their hands to worry about cell. phones bans.

If you forgot or don't have a bluetooth, put it on speakerphone.

But if it's really an emergency, you can still use your phone. You can't be pulled over just for talking on a cell phone anyway.

This is a sincere "THANK YOU" to Maryland General Assembly, from those of us who learned the hard way that "multi-tasking" is an oxymoron.

When we stop believing these ego-motivated myths of self-importance, that our agenda takes priority over our own safety and that of other drivers, maybe we'll experience less road rage. Perhaps now the focus can return to what the roads were designed to achieve and support: the critical "task" at hand when traveling at speeds over 65 mph - driving.

You can't be pulled over and ticketed for using a cell phone. It is only a "upsell" charge if you are pulled over for something else. The law is a paper tiger, both sides should be unsatisified.
