What they need to do is to cut useless programs!! This is what happens when you have a single party dominate the politics for many generations... Maryland is so blue that Republicans don't stand a chacne, so nothing changes. Business as usual and politicians continue to consolidate their position through cronyism. I'm a Republican, but I wouldn't want my party to win all the time. Complacency leads to corruption. All the time!!!

I have no idea what they do to close the gaps.
2B and the majority of homes will be re-assessed for property taxes in 2010.
Taxes certainly won't be going down, and O'Malley has a snowball's chance in hell of getting re-elected.
Repub or Dem, it doesn't really make a difference. These are large sums of money and there will need to be taxes and severe program cuts to fix it.
And god help us if the economy continues to deteriorate.
I'm fully expecting Maryland to come and put a speed camera on my driveway anyday now

Only thing that can be done is to cut programs... but that would require political prestiege and God help the politician brave enough to vote for cuts, because their career will be finished... but while their career might be finished, they will be hero in my mind. Now, what are they chances they will do so?

Cutting programs won't help. I recently moved from NY and compared with NYS public services, MD public services suck.

True. NY's much better with PSC. Maryland's PSC hardly enforces crap. BG&E is making out like bandits by charging the occupants' electricity with astonishing rates. If MD cuts PSC, I don't think anyone would even notice!
