Does anyone live in Charlestown, or know what it's like? How is the town as far as crime, neighborhoods, bad sections etc? Any help is much appreciated.

Default Charlestown, Cecil County, MD 21914

I grew up in Charlestown, MD. It is a very very small town. It does not even have a red light!! It is very water oriented & is just now building new homes & making upgrades to the area. Crime rate is not bad. it's is also a lot of retired persons.

I Live in Charlestown, Md. It is a quaint little, historical town that sits on the North East River. It has a small building that occupies Town Hall on one side and the Post Office on the other. The people who live in this town go to the Post Office to pick up mail as there is no home delivery. The Post Office also serves as our "Library" as there are donated books and mags there for your browsing/reading pleasure. We have 3 (4 in the summer months) fabulous places to eat on this little "island". We also have our own Elementary School. Surprisingly, there is little crime in this town since we do not have a police station. Maybe that's because we don't have any banks or ATM's either! We are a family oriented community! There is a not so pretty section tucked away in a corner of the island. A little more run down and not so historical so to say. We are close to major roads, freeways and shopping. This is probably one of the last living historical places left on earth that remains unspoiled by "bad" society!

I have never lived there, but am constantly there for military training. The town is pretty nice, though there isnt much around it. If you are used to civilization in all directions, you might want to go somewhere else. The weather is usally really nice though, not too humid, and there is little crime. I like that place a lot.

The wife and I are looking for a safe place to bring up our chidren. I crossed North East off the list because of the drug trailer parks that feed into the middle and high school. What is Perryville like. I now it is a bit doverse and there is some trouble on rt 40. but what about the schools?
