Tauton has is share of nice sections, and new develpments. For years, it had a reputation as being somewhat seedy; but more affordable. Which is most likely as a result of it being so close to the economically depressed sections of Providence, RI. Taunton is a nice place to live in you intend on communting in the city (Providence), but it's rather far/inconvenient if you intend on commuting into Boston though.

actually i commuted from lakeville to boston (and cambridge) for many years. if you live on the route 24 side of taunton you just on route 24 which connects to the SE expressway. mile wise it's roughly the same distance and if you ever listen to RI traffic reports going into providence they have the same traffic problems as going into boston.

First Time Buyer, I live in East Taunton, it is nice and the schools are good. At your price point I would shop Raynham, East Taunton, Dighton, and Berkley. If you are thinking of moving in the next year or so you really should speak with a mortgage professional very soon. There is a new program where you can use your wedding gift money towards your down payment. I can recommend someone if you would like.

Hi Mary. Welcome to City-Data! I see you saw one of Mary Shannon Moore's Facebook posts today about prospecting for clients on CD and decided to join.

Unfortunately, this thread is from 2007. So, I'd say it's likely that this person has already moved. Hopefully, you can contribute the next time someone asks about the area you cover as a real estate agent.

Norton schools nearly lost their accreditation a few years ago. I had a friend who lived in the town and the Shpack landfill has caused lots of concern in the town. My friend moved because the town had nothing to offer (he said it only has a few stop lights, so that gives an idea as to how sleepy it is).

If you can, look into Easton or Raynham. We are considering these towns (if we move to Southeastern MA). The Bridgewater Raynham High school has gotten good reviews and Easton is top notch. Mansfield is a great option too. From what I know, Middleboro has lousy schools but not nearly as bad as Taunton. Personally I'd avoid Taunton
