I may be teaching in Easthampton. Can anyone give me info on the area? Housing/condo prices? What are the schools like? How far is it from Northampton?

Easthampton is a pleasant New England old mill town that is located a few miles to the south of Northampton. It has a population of about 15,000.
It is about 14 miles north of Springfield. See the Public schools website Easthampton Public Schools - Easthampton, MA |

Easthampton is a peaceful place. We live in Amherst right now but have been looking in the Easthampton and Northampton area. Property tax in Easthampton is much lower than Amherst. According to our realtor there are more older people who live in Easthampton - once they move there they won't move again. Housing inventory is not high. For less than $300K you can get a decent 3br older house. For $400K you can get a nice 3+br newer house, possibly with more than 0.5 Acre. It's location is very good. Close to 91 so it's easy to get on the freeway, and close to Northampton so it's easy to go to all the restaurants and shops there.
