I’m looking for a place to buy bulk (50lb) flours - low gluten (cake), unbleached, organic, whole wheat. We do a lot of baking and would like healthy ingredients. Costco is a good place for all-purpose flour, but not many selections. Does anyone know where to get low cost, but healthy flour supply? If there’s a mill that would sell in such quantity, it would be great. Thanks.

Perfect timing! I just found this:

Pioneer Valley Heritage Grain

and this article:

Growing Wheat in New England - Yankee Magazine

and this (a Kneading Conference! Who would have imagined!! I've been baking bread for more yrs than I want to admit, and would love to attend one of these...):

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/25/dining/25grain.html

...and a wheat farm in Northfield - if they don't have what you want, they might be able to lead you:

Four Star Farms in Northfield - CISA - Western Massachusetts

You can't imagine how thrilled I was to find all of this - I never knew that wheat was ever grown here in New England, and certainly wouldn't have imagined that any was being grown now.

Hope this helps!

The best thing to do is contact them through their website. They can best advise you on how to buy their flour in bulk.

BTW one of my friends in Alabama raves about the quality of King Arthur flour. I know that they make great flour. Plus I like that they offer classes in baking. However, I've never bought flour in bulk. I'm sure that if you contact them directly, if they can't sell you flour in bulk directly, then they can tell you how and where to buy it.

someone in Craigslist is giving away a bulk load of whole wheat flour... posting just appeared, so if you act quick, you should be able to claim it. Look in the Boston / Free section.
