Think we have a winner!
Believe it or not, I think we have decided on Marblehead as our first choice as our favorite place to move to. The deciding factors are a YMCA, JCC, a great temple, sailing for kids, new high school, great soccer town, shopping, beaches, beautiful, lower tax rate than most other towns, does have rentals, safe and not far from Boston. We as a family would not be going to Boston that much, mainly hubby..so where we live and what it offers is more important. Also, better for our allergies not being surrounded by woods and better for dogs not having a tick issue. Thanks everyone for giving such great descriptions of Marblehead. Now we just need to get the funds and off we go!

Congrats Puf!
I was just there today. Great town, and very cool European feel to the old district. If I didn't have to work in the city, it would be a great place I would consider too.
If you have any questions.....then keep them coming

Thanks back at ya! I would imagine that it is considerably cooler in Marblehead than inland? Coming from the temps we get in lovely Bakersfield which is 116 to 113 the last two days, anything would seem cool.

It is about 84 in town and was around 76 right on the water. You'll get the breeze, but just remember- it works that way in the winter too
But 116- you need to cool off anyway! ha

Also, better for our allergies not being surrounded by woods and better for dogs not having a tick issue.
Congratulations on your decision! Marblehead is indeed a lovely town.
Regarding your dogs, I wouldn't assume there will be no ticks. Anyway, you'd still have to treat them for fleas. I use Frontline once a month, April-Oct. for both.
Also, I don't know if you have heartworm in your area, but the mosquitos here sure transmit it to dogs. After getting a heartwork test to make sure they're negative (if you start preventative treatment and they're positive, it's very dangerous) you would do well to start your dogs on Heartguard all year. You don't want to have them get heartworm, that's for sure.
Ah, Marblehead. You have a lot to look forward to!

Thanks for the advise. Knew about the heartworm problem living in Lexington, but wasn't sure if it was an issue at the ocean, never having lived near it before. Know that fleas can be a problem sometimes by the ocean. Do you buy your pet med's on line or from the vet? I found a Canadian site that has the real deal on Frontline products, etc. for half the price of the vet.
