Default That was not her question...

Obviously, If I had bought in MA 40 years ago and still lived there I could sell one there and buy one anywhere, and all would be hunky dory.

But moving from Ohio to MA, for the priviledge of living in a half million dollar shoebox is just nutty.

What about New River or New Bedford. The housing seems really reasonable there. I have a thread asking about it. If you buy now and it revitalizes you'll be in good shape.

You can buy a new single family home east of Hartford CT- on 1-2 acres
2000 square feet, 3 bedrooms 2 baths hardwood floors, fireplace double garage for 300K-

One does not have to be in and around Boston- where 500K by the way buys a substantial home-not a 'shoebox'

Housing in New England appreciates- it does very little of that in Ohio. For pure economics New England is a better investment, and still a better place to live with a higher quality of life and a better and more diverse economy.
